The schematics for the vault suggest that no, actually, they don't have a capacity to be turned off.Yes, tha tablets withstand the plasma as otherwise they would have to keep replacing them. Besides which, you'll set off every alarm in the building if you cause the plasma to go off.
One more day, then Rianna is going in with a 1 in 5 chance.
That was sort of along the lines of what I was thinking, everytime someone tries and fails to steal the tablet they have to replace the fakes...ahh well.
Could be that the actual tablet's not even in the vault...hmm...

It would be very difficult to reproduce it, Takuan, yes.Looking into that, you do find this. Legend has it that Siva created a duplicate of the tablet, which he swapped with the one he stole so as to deceive the Sith about the theft. He got a hunk of rare mineral rock hacked out to look the part. But the big problem was the way that the writing on the tablets only appears when a force sensitive touches its back. Siva had the back of the fake coated with a substance that biologically reacted to the proximity of midi-chlorians, and that triggered a luminiscent appearance of the letters he had faked on the front. It wasn't perfect but he didn't need it to be.
Now, say these fakes in the vault are made on the same principle... you reckon it wouldn't be as efficient as the Sith original, so the writing would be slower to appear if you looked for it. That's no good though, the trap activates on touch. Still, that is a decisive difference between original and fake.
This is what we have to work with, guys...we've got to figure this out ASAP.
Thought of something....that's what the LEGEND says. Who says that's how the fakes were actually made though? Hmmm...
Yup, but there are always enough Lantarnans that know.
If you remember, you were told that over time several people who had a right to be in there had died. It IS risky. But on the whole, they normally have to Indiana Jomes the tablet out and back. You never found out, but that was actually part of the ceremony (symbolic of what Siva did, you see).
