Come on he was great in Forest gump and Big I loved those movies and he was the voice of woody whats so terrible about that.
Also so what if Philadelphia won an oscar Pulp fiction gets far more recognition nowadays. It has become a classic and will always be remembered as being an excellent movie, which is a reward upon itself.
You dont necessarily need an oscar to know a movies great.

Forest Gump is one of the most overrated movies ever. It's so dull. Big was ok, but only as a novelty movie. Plenty of bad actors have done decent voice over roles, it's really not a difficult job.
Because it shows how square the movie industry has become. How the hell could a Tom Hanks vehicle beat the single most witty, well written, perfectly casted movie of the decade? Well, because the Academy are ****heads. I know oscars don't make films great (Pulp won the Cannes Film Festival anyway which is probably more credible), but thats not the point. That movie deserved an oscar more than any movie ever, and it was taken away by, like I said, a Tom Hanks vehicle. It's insulting.
Tom Hanks lacks intensity, screen presence, versatility, he isn't funny as a comedic character and he isn't scary as a bad guy. He's also godawful with accents. His only good movie was The Road To Perdition, and even that was made slightly worse because of him.
