Spider-Man still had more blood and some cursing (In the first one). and I doubt superman would have been PG-13, especially the first superman movie. Superman was always too much of a fatherly figure, which i think makes him more of a kid friendly superhero than Spider-Man. I always found Spider-Man to be a superhero for all ages.
First of all, Superman 1 was made in 1978, Superman 2 in 1980, by movie standards at that time they could have easily been PG-13 (Especially the second one. Cinema was quite different back then.)
Superman is more of a role model than Spiderman yes, but he is unbelievably powerful, he fits the 'great power, great responsibility' bracket as much as Spiderman does... that might make him more kid friendly, but not by much, Spiderman isn't the most Adult friendly Superhero either...
Superman appeals to any age bracket, he's THE superhero, regardless of people's opinion towards him almost everyone knows who he is...
I agree, Calynx. the Spider-Man movies are better. And I still think Superman's more of a toddler favorite than spider-man is. I never said spider-man wasn't still a kids favorite, I was just saying that superman had less harder dialogue in it's comicbooks and movies than Spider-Man. and i happened to remember being a toddler and liking Superman better because he was more easier for me to understand than spider-man. then, as I got older, I started to like spider-man more because he had a lot more of an interesting history. that's all i was saying.

it all comes down to personal preference is suppose...
to me superman has always been a much more interesting character, he's more complex than most people give him credit for...
the movies themselves were made so long ago when audiences were less demanding, i think if they made them nowadays they'd be lynched...
superman is not a modern movie by any means, spiderman is...
Well we will have to see when the new superman movie comes out. If it is good then I will agree if it sucks then we know that people are bored with superman. I want to like superman i really do, but he has so much power and really no enemy really every hurts him. Now spiderman is always getting laid out or is all bandaged up. You can tell that Spider man has to earn his victories.
I never really did like the whole invincible thing with supes. his only weakness is kryptonite. and that's pretty much a rare thing to find. I mean, he's almost the only superhero who doesn't get majorly wounded during fights. it kind of annoys me once in a while. I once played the superman game on gamecube, and there was absolutely no way to get killed. The only thing i had to worry about were civilians getting killed. I wish he'd have more weaknesses so it would be harder for him.

your kidding right?
he's not invincible... in his current incarnation there are several people who can take him...
he's been killed...
a superman game(and a bad one at that) is no basis for a comic character...
and almost every villain dc has kryptonite, they get it when they sign up...
I know he's been killed before. but they only did that because the sales were going down for him and they wanted to see if it would boost it. What I meant was getting defeated without DC needing to do it for sales. here, is 'indestructable' a better word for you? And what do you mean when you say the villains get it when they sign up? sign up for what? What do they do sign a contract, or something like that, saying 'I'll do whatever it takes to destroy superman', and all of the sudden the kryptonite falls from the sky? and I never said he doesn't get wounded, I said he doesn't get 'majorly wounded'. There's a difference. he gets the least wounded out of all superheroes. and him getting killed only was a poor attempt to bring sales up. and he still only has one weakness. and that gets on my nerves.

i was joking... i was observing the fact that so many pissant villains that fight superman have kryptonite...
have you ever seen juggernaut? or thor? or silver surfer? they barely ever get injured severely...
he has one weakness? superman has been depowered and had his ass handed to him on many occasions... he's not the powerhouse he once was...
to me he'll always be a more complex character than spiderman...

Why do you think he is more complex then Spiderman? Can you explain this?

Spider-Man's way more complex than superman! Always has been, always will be. Well I think so, anyway.
