Okay! Finally! Intelligence!

Hmmm, thats interesting Atlantis001 and I would tend to agree. The one thing that is constant about the universe in general is "change". Imo though, there is also an unchanging aspect of eternity within the "heart of hearts" of every person. THAT, is the doorway through which one can pass and become a true Immortal. So, before going off on a rave I can feel building up inside me right now, I will say that yes, there IS and there MUST be something eternal inside everything and this is of greatest consequence for sentient life forms that are also self-aware, as are humans. The problem is finding out how to gain access, how to cross its threshold and do so in a manner that is exploratory and aimed at bring back lost treasure, discovering latent abilities and skills and yes - becoming a Hero, a Superman, really and truly. This problem is exacerbated by religion and Western religion in particular, because they simply fail to see whats right in front of their collective noses, the Truth at the heart of their own religious traditions, the true and accurate meaning and interpretation of Christs words. And that applies to ALL other religious traditions too, not just Christianity. More often than not, religions are built around great, enlightened men and women who for whatever reasons, have crossed through the deep portal I allude to above. Not only did they live to tell about it, they generally brought back something intangible but powerful, some knowledge or Force of spirit that has an incredibly positive effect on all those around them - even on an entire society.

But don't bother going to your local priest or minister asking for advice. They are, in a word, clueless! So, for a whole TWO THOUSAND f'ing years or more, not only have we in the West, NOT enjoyed the sage advice and assistance one SHOULD receive from our religious leaders, we have, most horribly, been persecuted by them, been taken advantage of by them and even been insulted, abused, tortured, murdered and terrified by them! They have been responsible for genocide, no less! How many times have nations, on both sides, gone to war in the name of "God". It's sickening to me as a member of this species, and quite embarrassing too. In fact, it's safe to say that the one single institution responsible for more human suffering and misery for all of recorded human history has been that of organized religion! I f'ing HATE all of them and wish they could be exterminated completely, utterly and finally. They are purveyors of a type of mental illness that has infected civilization throughout the ages - over two millennia now - and at the beginning of this new millennium, the 3rd millennium - it's time for them to foad - and time for the rest of us to take charge of our own destiny - to explore - to seek adventure - to discover for ourselves, the point and purpose of each one of our lives and then to begin our journey! What wonders lay along the way are going to change the world forever - in a good way. But there will be pitfalls and unexpected problems along the way too I'm sure. Imo what will transpire is something the creative writers of scifi/fantasy have already anticipated, to a degree, and also alot that they could never have imagined or foretold. This is a great time to be alive on planet Earth! No doubt.

Lol whipe them all out? C'mon now...

But I do agree with alot of your post, yes I look forward to new wonders that may be a reality within our lifetimes, mainly immortality through genetics and the possibilities virtual reality will open up.

It is interesting that in near death experiences people who are clinically dead, and have no brain activity are still able to have the near death experiences. That could be a evidence that our consciousness does not depend on the brain to exist, so maybe it survive death.

It could alsso be evidence that the brain is more complex than before thought, yet you are probably right.

Interesting indeed.

Yeah, I have to revisit the whole near-death experiences question. I need to determine whether there truly is good evidence for oobe's. If so, than that certainly has to be considered in any hypothesis about the nature of deth now doesn't it.

Oh, and of course I wasn't being literal when I wished death and hell fire to rain down on all organized religion! Lol....

*As the laughing fades, jOHN thinks to himself.... "Well...no, actually I WAS serious. I DO wish they'd all just spontaneous combust and thusly be featured in a really great program on TLC or Discovery or The History Channel, or or even NOVA." After thinking this, suddenly he really begins to lol: "HAhahahahahaha...". Ahhh, it's a great way to start the work week. With a laugh that is...*

Death, or what death is, is all in the mind!

Still a chimpanzee, are you? That is what a chimpanzee would do. A human would have compassion.

Well, it looks like the forum has compassion for jOHN_Anderton - the guy is restricted...

I agree, humans aught to have compassion - it's the only way to personal as well as other's mental, physical and spiritual well being.

Anyhow, death is only a refresher on the eternal path of life.

And to discuss something properly, people need to take things less emotionally, and more intellectually, after all this is a philosophy forum, not a therapy session for emotionally disturbed people.

Good one!

Yes, but intellect and indeed philosophy without emotion and mystery is boring and meaningless.

Exactly. This is philosophy, meant to be contemplated peacefully among the aged minds as they watch flowers bloom and grass grow.

It is not a flame war nor a popularity contest. I thank the moderators JA is gone so this forum can have at least 3 (2 now) days peace.
I'm betting he'll might even come back and make an issue on the unfairness of the ban.

Still emotion should be among these aged minds, for aged minds fall asleep easily.

I wish I was aged...think of all the wisdom!

Death is only a change from one form to another.....Transition.

I' m inclined to join in the speculation that any and all consciousness ceases to exist at death, and that death itself is ultimately the exact same experience as prior to conception.

Yes, could be................
