That was one of the most strange SW moments for me...
People are always lambasting Star Trek because the Enterprise always finds planet which are a lot like Earth, hell! one of them even have their own nazis! with uniforms and all! ("patterns of force" season 2, 1968).
and here (Ep 2) in a Galaxt far, far away aliens are playing football and in one of their plantes they have some kind of US Constitution (Naboo and it´s two terms of office....).
Apparently Science Fiction and Originality don´t mix
Mine was a friendly semi ironic rant... actually I love both. ST is the best Sci-Fi series ever and SW is the best Sci-Fantasy movie saga ever... compairing them is like compairing apples and oranges, an useless exercise.
"Most SciFi movies to are WAY OUT OF THE ORDINARY are stupid... i dont inderstand them"
There is an old Sci-Fi rule (nowadays it seems forgotten by the writers):
NEVER, NEVER include more than ONE extraordinary concept. If you do the story wont work and the audience/readers wont belive it.
Example: in the novel "the invisible man" HG Wells, in order to make such a charecter belivable, made it flawed, he got a cold and was sneezing and coughing during the whole movie. He made him a man wirh all of man´s failings wich happened to be invisible... and the readers believed in the character.
