I honestly dont see either "winning". I remember it took a long time for people to accept dvds, and that didnt require a special kind of tv. A lot of people are stubborn, i remember getting pissed at people complaining about us not carrying the new releases on VHS when I worked at Movie Gallery.
Sounds biased posting this here( 🙄 ), but I think Star Wars could be a huge factor in the HD rivalry if they decide to release the special super 6 film set on only one format. I think they can afford(like there is anything they cant afford) to go with only one format and not worry about losing money, because enough fanboys would pay the money required just for those movies alone.

There isn't a format so quickly adopted as DVD. It by far exceeds Video and CD speedwise. So for te first time since the video wars (VSH, Betamax and Video1000) we have a format war going on again. Very stupid, if you ask me. Either one wins or a new third format will take over. But there will be winners and losers since the formats ARE different.
I wonder how though, since some movies seem to come out on both formats....
