I don't think GL should let it go, however, I do think that if he is going to have so many demands of how an author writes, he should accept it into his canon.
But, I guess we shall just have to agree to disagree. And on this subject I shall say no more... for the time-being.
Anyway, you know what truly depresses me? The degradation of American vocabulary.
A prime example:
Earlier between classes I overheard this guy say "You don't have to like people of the same sex to be a homosexual."
I stopped dead, turned around and said "Could you repeat that please?"
He just looked at me and said "I said: You don't have to like people of the same sex to be a homosexual."
Then I said simply "You, sir, are an imbecile."
To which he replied, with a vacant expression "What?"
I decided to elaborate "mentally feeble."
Once again he replied to me with a vacant expression "What?"
I sighed and decided to dumb it down completely "You are a dumb@$$""
He understood, and replied "WHAT? I'm not a dumb@$$ you're the dumb@$$. Dumb@$$." And stalked off.
Please, tell me this is an isolated incident. Please tell me that this is not a widespread phenomenon that Americans are truly loosing that much vocabulary. I implore you to show me that people can still comprehend words like Machination and Ambidextrous.
Augh, that reminds me, I had Machination on an essay I am writing, that a peer-reviewer didn't know what it means.
