The prime reason is that when in his Superman identity, our hero always vibrates his face slightly so that photographs will only show his features as a blur. The physical distinctions between the Superman and Clark Kent persona are a curl of hair, the glasses, and a deepening of his voice. Another major factor is that the lack of a mask keeps people from even suspecting that Superman has a secret identity. For example, Lex Luthor was once told the truth, but he dismissed the idea because he could not believe that someone so powerful would want another identity. Also in the modern stories, Lois Lane never suspected the dual identity.Furthermore, there have been several occasions where Clark and Superman have been seen together. Something tells me most people in this thread that are saying "Superman Sux" are actually teenagers. Why?
Well, when i was a kid i absolutely loved Superman. i mean, i worshipped the guy. Flying....who wouldn't love to fly...who hasn't had flying dreams? Superstrength....i mean...nough said 🙂 As for the rest of the powers...well, it's enough to make any kid drool. Then i grew into the angsty goth/i hate life teenager that was into Batman, Spiderman, and Spawn. But i'm older, more mature now.
I don't find inner demons so interesting anymore, traumatizing experiences that enteraining, etc. etc. In an imperfect world, Spiderman is a scrawny little kid that to me looks like a 5 year old given control over nuclear missiles....so...a mistake.
Batman looks like a guy that just can't get over an early experience and that most likely is afraid of counselling because it might just cure him and then what would he do right?
Superman is up there with the best. He represents hardness. A guy that won't give up no matter what. He has ideals and principles and you;re blaming him for that. He's fighting the good fight, protecting the innocent and even those that aren't innocent. For Christ's sake, this isn't even his planet...

Because Sentry has cool long hair and is therefore waaaaaaaay deeper and cooler than SM and Gladiator has the funky skin. I mean why like a guy that looks normal and representative of the human race (even though ironically he's not)? That's nowadays mentality pr......sad....but true....

you actually think gladiator is cool? considering he is more powerful (based on pre crisis superman), and is probably the most blatant rip off between the two companies? i dont see who you can complain about his powers:

I never said he was the worst character ever, but he is the most boring mainstream character. I watch Smallville often and hate when I miss it. I watch all the DCU toons(but T.Titans. It's crap). I just can't seem to tolerate Comic Supes. Gladiator is an arrogant bastard and he's got that "I'm not just better than you, I'm way better than you" attitude. I admit that he's a ripoff or homage depending on how you look @ it. The confidence-based powers thing is interesting also. I've been a fan ever since I saw him manhandle Juggs on the old X-Men show.
