Why wait for the movies? The movies are sub-par to the books.

Most movies are. But I read enough fantasy, and never really got into the Potter stuff, even after seeing the films and attempting to read book 1 for a bit.

Watching the movies first would probably be enough to put someone off from the series.

I love Harry Potter, and I try to like the movies, but I always end up disappointed.

Book 1 is the easiest to get into.

Thing is, it seemed so watered down compared to most of the stuff that I read (I read a lot of fantasy). Even with endorsements of "Oh, they get darker and more interesting as the books go on. You have to get to {insert book #} before it's really good." If a writer is good, I should be able to enjoy myself by halfway through the first book. And the fact that I wasn't, and was able to set it down and leave it without trouble, is all the evidence I need.

Actually, I've had most of 6-7 ruined for me already. I'm not really upset, but I briefly considered reading the last two just to avoid that. But alas.

...book 1 was her first attempt at writing, you can't really blame her for that. If you notice her books get thicker and thicker as the stories get better. You only need to be on book 3 to get it good. ✅ Books 1 and 2 would be so simple to get through.

I found a gif of a hypnotizing thing, but it was all square and shit, so I made it into this.
