Fox hunting

Started by KharmaDog3 pages

I don't see the sport behind having fifty dogs and 20 horseback riders chase a single fox.

I also don't see the sport in watching 50 dogs tear apart a fox.

I'm not a hunter (anymore) and I don't have a problem with those who hunt within the law and with proper and sporting ethics. This on the otherhand just seems to be a bunch of people watching something get torn apart with a bit of horseback riding thrown in.

^Anymore? Are you saying you use to be?

Yes I used to hunt. For few years I lived in northern quebec and Canada's Northwest Territories. I hunted caribou and moose and they tasted very good. There are not alot of grocery stores up north, not to mention food is expensive and I am not a huge fan of beef.

Since I've moved to just outside of Toronto I don't hunt anymore. Many of my friends do and I don't fault them for it so long as they do it legally and follow the strict ethics that most hunters who also love the outdoors do.

I still am an avid fisherman/hiker/rockclimber/mountainbiker, but I've gotten rid of my rifle.

lets hunt whales,.....hide and seek Moby

Did you even read my post? "For few years I lived in northern Quebec and Canada's Northwest Territories. I hunted caribou and moose and they tasted very good. There are not alot of grocery stores up north, not to mention food is expensive and I am not a huge fan of beef."

You could say watching movies is pointless. You could say playing video games is pointless. What is or is not pointless when it comes to what people do with their spare time is an opinion, your opinion differs that others. People think that violent video games should be banned. Shouting out to ban something before you actually understand it is a knee jerk reaction that doesn't do anything than divide people's opinions even further apart.

As for hunting being banned I disagree for a number of reasons. First of all, before the granola crunchers decided to jump on the environmental bandwagon, it was the anglers and hunters along with their various associations such as trout unlimited, ducks unlimited and various other organizations that have endeavoured to protect wildlife and wild lands.

A great deal of knowledge concerning animals and their behaviour along with their movements and habitat needs is derived from anglers and hunters.

Not too mention (as with the case with white-tailed deer) environments and conditions have changed so dramatically through human influence that whitetails are more populace in areas such as southern and central Ontario than at any other time in history. These areas cannot really support the current numbers. Thousands more deer would starve in the winter months than already do if their numbers weren't culled by hunting.

Hunting isn't bad, although I don't choose to do it anymore I would not criticise an ethical hunter.

I like meat. Somebody has to kill animals for me to eat meat, therefore I cannot condemn hunting or killing animals. That's pretty much where I stand.

I like to hunt a different kind of fox

Food maybe (but we can live without meat, my myself am vegitarian)

Maybe we can, but I don't want to. Being a vegetarian is something you have to choose for yourself, can't force everyone to be one.

i hate when people have an opinion on things when they don't have the full facts...

most people who hunt are average people..only a small proprtion are upper class....the fox is killed by one quick bite to the back of the neck...foxses are vermin, they are not sweet animals who love everybody..people kill rats and treat them like vermin, that is what a fox is basically...if hunting is banned the countryside will be basically destroyed...hunting is a way to get rid of the old foxses who aren't fast enough of smart enough to run away...

Yeah people do kill rats all the time.. I don't see the difference between a rat and a fox, one is just cuter than the other, that's all.

..exactly..foxes are vermin...also if hunting is banned foxses will still die..probably more painful and more prolonged deaths..and more of them will die...hunting is the only effective way to control the fox population..in places where it has been banned foxes are now almost extinct becuase they get shot on sight..

More humane killing would be preferable. But then again who am i to comment 😖 the countryside folk are a world away from town folk its there heritage. i wonder if it was hunting rats instead of foxes...would u all be so bothered. doesnt mean ia gree with it though.

david Bellamy, world famous botanist and conservationist, has predicted the extinction of the rural fox within fifty years unless the hunting ban is lifted... with the use of more "humane" methods of control, far more foxes will be killed than were before.... also, large areas of countryside, kept clear to facilitate hunting, and areas of woodland (coverts) maintained by landowners to enable the breeding of foxes for the hunt will alsmost certainly be turned into industrial land or housing (the theory being Mr Landowner keeps them for hunting... now he can't hunt, why should he spend large amounts of money maintaining them, when he can profit by selling it to developers.... this is already happening near my place...) with the loss of these habitats, Britain can basically say goodbye to the recovering populations of, for example, pine martens and red squirrels... not to mention the fact that many now non-endangered species will end up on the endangered list... and before someone says, why can't the government maintain these habitats.... this government hasn't got enough money to spend already... whats going to be the first thing to go when it needs cash... the NHS or a few old fox coverts...?? A large number of conservationists opposed the hunting ban.. which I think speaks volumes.... remember, every piece of land in Britain is managed, working land... it is these "foul upper class fox hunters" who keep it nice for us..... oh, and all you anglers, and those half million workers in related industries... your hobby and jobs are next.....

thank you..but as long as the government get to have a go at the so-called'upper-class, what does the rest of it matter?...

also by 'humane' they mean shooting, poisining, snaring and gasing..so the fox can be in pain for days..these also affect other animals like rabbits, hares and badgers...

this subject actually makes my furious..i can't stand that they've banned it becuase people don't know really what's happening at all...

Excuse me!? How can you say that!?
1. The foxes is not killed with one bite, I've saw footage all the time & haven't saw one single fox die like that!

2. I have facts!

3. Hunters don't kill old foxes, they kill anything from mother foxes (with cubs left to die) to cubs on there own!

4. True, the fox will die....*waits years...* eventuetly! Not having a gun pointed at them or trapped waiting for hounds to RIP them apart!

5. Why keep population down? They're wildlife and it should be treated well, not destoyed! Thet is why were are here. Instead of protecting the planet people are destroying it, they take stuff for granted!

6. What you just told me.....? It's all lies and I know.
