in england and some other european countries, soccer is called football, and if you say soccer infront of an enthusiastic football supporter, they will get pissed off.

in australia,

english football eg manchester united, is called soccer

football, is called footy, and is rugby league, and the Panthers are a footy team,

NFL, american football, is called gridiron,

Rugby union is called Rugby or union.

football=NFL.
