Soul Calibur III

Started by SaTsuJiN17 pages

Oh i see o_o.. mine is on its last leg, due to this one afternoon where my palm hit the memory card slot by accident.. now every so often it 'forgets' to read the disc -_-

anywho's.. I think the game is great so far.. but I think the only annoying part is you gotta unlock all the create a char parts by doing other stuff.. so I'd suggest dabbling in other modes before creating a character so you get what you want immediately..

My likes and dislikes about SC 3 so far...

LIKES

1. The graphics
2. The music
3. Creating your own character
4. Editing character costume / hair colors
5. The endings are not drawings this time ! 🙂
6. I get to play as Amy ( Raphael's foster daughter ! )

DISLIKES..

1. Ivy and Talim will never be the same again ! 😠
2. Some of the characters can be a real pain to beat.
3. I didn't like a lot of the voices.
4. There is nowhere to put your name to be ranked in whatever mode.

Right now I am trying to learn Ivy and Talim all over again.
I tried Setsuka and she did not appeal to me.
I liked Tira, Raphael, Amy, and Siegfried !

Most over rated series in the world.

It's not the absolute best Soul game, but it isn't terrible either.

They are just really different this time.
Ivy's SS / CS throws are slightly different and she now has new moves with her whip. She does not seem to have that much range this time.
I just noticed really different moves for Talim.

I found Raphael to be somewhat the same.

Nightmare was very different !

Yeah, 'cause Raphael was kinda cheap 😛

Heh. Raphael was one of my best characters
(not because of 6BBB ! 😛 )

If you want cheap, fight against Abyss !
I would not be surprised if he was banned in tournaments !

abyss is playable?.. that would be a waste of a character slot.. he's pretty boring

as it stands now I think setsuka will be top tier in tournaments.. she has rediculous popups and guard breakers

and they made like 3 of kilik's moves all wierd.. o_-

Likes :

-visual presentation
-audio presentation
-character / outfit designs
-new weapon designs (tiras 'stained glass' razor hoop is very nice example)
-creation mode
-stage diversity
-amount of unlockable content
-tournament modes are a welcome addition
-a more indepth 'tutorial' mode accompanies the standard (but always awesome) practice mode
-alot of the changes they made to the old characters keeps them fresh, which doesnt force them to attain new playstyles, but its there when needed
-the stories of each character are conveyed more dramatically through the cutscenes, bringing a more emotional involvement to the audience

Dislikes :

-lack of game modes with 'depth' (like 'quick play'😉. I also found tale of souls to be only slightly disappointing, not totally bad.
-what you wear determines your create-a-character's personality
-some of the dialogue is recycled among multiple characters
-not many new win stances, but what has been added is nice
-kilik's fast staff twirl is removed! >_<!!!

I've managed to play a few hours, and I have several opinions on it...

LIKES

The Tales of Souls is personalized for the most part, with a story that really makes the characters people instead of just characters.

Character creation is really nice, lots of diverse choices.

LOTS OF CHARACTERS! YAY!

Most of the costumes are really good, and most of the updates of SCII characters have fixed problems I had with previous costumes

Soul Blade characters! Woohoo!

Tira is truly bipolar, with different kinds of voice for manic and depressed. That, plus her hula hoop of death, makes her, for me at least, freakier than Voldo.

Raphael is a darker character now, almost a vampire.

DISLIKES

Some fights are horrendously one-sided (Try Xianghua against Talim or Tira against Cervantes, you'll see what I mean).

During the cutscenes, most of the action icons are too small and hard to see to hit in time (Has NEVER dodged Cervantes' entrance scene attack). Something like RE4's button indicators would have been much better.

Some voices and spellings have been changed, and even for the ones that are better, it kind of destroyed continuity.

Zasalamel is the main bad guy (Excluding Night Terror). I hate that.

Most Create-a-Character stuff has to be unlocked through hours of play! Argh!

Stuff seems a bit more scattered, compared to SCII fairly streamlined menu system.

and my final dislike, which is definitely due to the fact that I had the GC SCII...

THE PS2 CONTROLS ARE WAY TOO LOOSE! I have to play with the Directional buttons. I should not be forced to play with directional buttons in a 3D arena.

I love the endings, but they seemed a bit rushed to me.
Abyss is playable. I wish Amy would have been given more lines,
an ending, etc

I love how the game throws really hard characters at me when I'm using someone I dont know how to play with , just for the sake of getting their ending.

i.e. I'm using maxi, then all the sudden "prepare to defend yourself!"
Maxi vs those 3 crazy special girls with wierdo moves (the one with the staff that changes wacky sizes)

but if I'm using kilik, I'll never come across the 'defend yourself' situtation -,-

I'm thinking of going to a SC 3 tournament this month even though I know I won't do well.

I know a few people who gave up their favorite characters because of their changes.

I loved the SC series ever since it came out for Dreamcast. The game looked so gorgeous, I was in love, my fav character was the ghost pirate Cervantes. My friend and I use to have some awesome battles together, he used Siegfried. SC2 was pretty much my sole reason for buying an XBOX, when I heard that Spawn was going to be the exclusive character I was sold. I was a bit disappointed tho when I finally saw him. I really wanted him to be more like the comic version, I kept asking where are the chains? I mean how bad ass was that? It's what pretty much made Spawn who he was. No chains? They really dropped the ball there. But all in all I was still pleased. My only disappointment, I never got to play as Link and he looked bad ass too. It's been awhile and now SC3 is finally out but only for PS2? Ironically the system that had the worst exclusive character in SC2. Needless to say I'm seriously disappointed. I hope that it still manages to come out for XBOX, regular XBOX not 360. And I really hope at that point it has online play. I mean as great of a series as this is for a fighter nowadays not to have online play is just simply inexcusable. ❌

I bought SC2 just because of all the hype and people saying it's so different and better than most. After I got it I was disappointed b/c it was just like any other fighter to me and the graphics didn't seem much better than anything else even though they were good. So I'm not getting SC3, I hardly played SC2 after I got it.
It doesn't look any different from 2 anyway, just new features and characters. These are my OPINIONS.
I was surprised that it came out already.

is it comprehensible.....

I'm not sure if I am going to a SC 3 tournament today or not.
I'm surprised Abyss is allowed.

When is out in the UK? I take it you Americans already have it, any good? What's it like?

I'm not sure exactly when it is coming out in the UK.

I was a bit disappointed in SC 3, but it was not a terrible game either.

I never liked SC2 that much, but I like SC3 a lot. the graphics aren't that much better or even better at all. but there are more characters. The custimization factor is pretty fun. Chronicles is WAY better than that really stupid weapon master thing from SC2, but my 1 complaint is, do they have 3 costumes or only 2 now?

Is there more to do because SC2 I finished pretty quick.
