Little Red Riding Hood was originally written by the Frenchman Charles Perrault in 1697 (Part of Stories by Mother Goose). The Grimm brothers adapted the fairytale to it's now most commonly known version (it orginally had a bad end!). So it is in fact from France, not Germany.

As I said, I assumed that because they were german, then the
story may very well be from there as well.

mythology.

The latter probably created before the first, but the former
older in terms of the influence (from Mesopotamian myth),
as well as older if one takes the Bible literally.
