New details from Star Wars Celebration III.
April 27, 2005 - While this week's Star Wars Celebration III was centered around the upcoming prequel film Revenge of the Sith, it also provided fans with the first concrete news on the two upcoming Star Wars television series. TheForce.net was on hand to record the details and share them with their readers.
The animated series so far sounds pretty straightforward: an expansion of the Clone Wars short cartoons into full-length episodes, redone in stylish 3D computer graphics. The more interesting news relates to the live-action series, which will focus on the early days of the Rebellion.
Lucasfilm is planning, so far, to shoot and air 100 episodes, or four seasons' worth – possibly indicating that the show will follow a pre-set story arc. However, the show will be written and filmed one season at a time.
Each episode will be a full hour in length. Lucas himself plans to direct the first season – a fact that is probably a disappointment to many fans who hoped the flannel-clad one would stick to producing and hire a more talented director.
The live-action series will probably be based on a minor character from Episode III. One possible candidate is Aayla Secura, a female Twi'lek Jedi who fought the droid army on Geonosis in Attack of the Clones and participated in a disastrous encounter with General Grievous in Clone Wars.
Even if Aayla is not a major character, her chances of being in the show are good. Actress Amy Allen said at the Celebration that George Lucas had briefly discussed a role for her character in the upcoming series.

could we be seeing Darth Lumiya in the tv show?
😐 its set between ep3 and 4 isnt it? hence, only vader and palpatine would be around....?
and who the feck is lumiya.....is that from our good friend He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?
no, Shira brei comes from the marvel comics and was later revived in other EU, and i think maybe in one of the radio dramas. she was in the rebel alliance as an imperial spy. Luke shot her down after being guided by the force. she survived and was cybernetically repaired. Vader recognized her force potential and secretly trained her in the dark side as a full sith lord in case anything should happen to luke to continue the sith legacy. Her name is Darth Lumiya and she uses a really rare sith weapon called a lightwhip.
