Ok folks, joning in now is Menelacar, a nobleman from the more southerly parts of Gondor (areas that are relatively intact following the invasion of the Wainriders, though it felt the Great Plague as badly as the rest).
Likely to have seen a bit of action aginst the Wainriders, Menelacar makes up part of the 'long time since we saw them' Gondorian delegation, which unlike the rest of you actually has proper ambassadorial representation (though the Eotheod have something close).
Now, we've lost enough time here for me to not be bothered to run him through the paces of why he is in on this, and aisde from anything else the player really knows what he is doing and about the setting. Yay!
So, long story short, for whatever reason- probably showing faith in Gondor- the King trusts you, Menelcar, and has brought you in on this investigation.
Do you want to be brought up to speed on things, or have you got the gist?
A young man on horseback rides, alone, through the gates of Fornost, his hooded cloak pulled down to reveal sharpened features and shoulder length auburn hair tied back in a short pony tail. As he rides through the streets, he stares in wonder at the colourful banners, confetti and other assorted decorations that blanket the city streets in preparation for the forthcoming tournament. Tired and weary from his long journey from Gondor, sailing via Mithlond, he immediately finds rest and nourishment at a local inn.
When fully revitalised, he makes his way to the Royal Court where two Arthedain soldiers stand guard at the entrance. Their Halberds clink together as they block his path.
"What is your business?" one enquires.
The man pulls a piece of parchment from his pocket and hands it to the guard. The guard reads it briefly and, noticing the seal of Gondor, carefully hands it back to the young man.
"Very good, Sir. I will accompany you to Lord Turambar's offices."
I think I've got the general gist of what's happening - as my above thread shows, I guess as first thing I should report to the ambassador.
To clarify, my character has been brought in especially to investigate? And if so, what has my briefing been in Lord Turambar? Has the Gondorian King told me he trusts him and has told me to fill him in on my investigation, or is he under suspicion too?
Turambar is a part of the flower of the Gondorian nobility- a glorious southern Dunadan, and so blone haired, in comparison to the dark hair of their Northern cousins.
Being accompanied through the palace in Summer is a great privilege. The halls of Gondor and the mighty twin fortresses that guard the lands of shadow are great also, but here in Arthedain is where Elendil and Isildur built their seat of rule with all the skill and power of the Dunadain of old.
(Of course, they actually built the capital off to the west from here, but that's history for you)
And so the architecture is almost Elven in its beauty- better built in many ways, elegant and graceful, but perhaps- to your mind- rather less practical. Fornost is a long way from Mordor, and was never built with a fortress mentality.
Turamber's offices are part of an Embassy and so technically Gondorian territory. Arthedain guards give way to your countrymen once you reach the offices, and are quickly ushered inside.
"Menelacar!" cries out Turambar. He is standing ready for you in a very well furnished room."You have journeyed quickly in these times! the roads are hazardous. I did not expect you so fast."
You were most likely not summoned to investigate but to bump up Turambar's delegation and show a bit of support for Arnor (very dodgy area that, though- the Dunadain nobility in Gondor are very much against the idea, with the main exception being the royal line itself. The King basically got the job, after the royal line kinda petered out, by being a highly successful General (and distant royal relation), and he has a 'kick evil's ass' mentality to things like Orcs. That is well, because he got the throne at the expense of Arvedui, who had a better claim, and so it could have been the finish of any hope of good relations, Instead, he has worked hard to keep things friendly, and almost certainly sponsored your visit).
The Tournament is a good time to come, but plan is that you get sucked in very quick to this whole thing. Turambar doesn't know about it, however.
I'll work on something.
Menelacar bows briefly to obey protocol.
"His Highness felt a new Gondorian face was politically long overdue in Arnor, my lord. As such he sponsored my visit and I was able to sail to Mithlond and come east from there. He also felt the main North/South road was too dangerous to risk for a lone traveller, while if Gondorian soldiers had accompanied me, it may have promoted false hope of Gondorian military aid to Arnor."
"Nevertheless, my lord, it is a relief to have finally arrived."
"That is certainly an impression we do not want to give," says Turambar, with some conviction.

You two can catch up with business, which we cna skip past because it is mostly trivialities on the scale of this game.
You do know your predecessor was named Aranui, and you understand he got in with the favour of the King when he took part in the rescue of the King's daughter last year, before political shenanigans caused him to return.
"Aranui had some friends, all of which were in favour of the King. In fact, he seems to have a group of foreigners that interest him, people who have pledged their aid to his cause. The faces change, but the group's misison remains the same. Having Aranui in with them was very useful to me. If you could manage the same, it would be well."
Yes, Aranui was mah.
I am happy to assume that you guys met out on the fields, and so Menelacar got sucked into the investigation, but did you want to RP out a meeting?
Arvedui may be the busiest, but he's the easiest to talk to seeing as he knows exactly what you are doing, of course, being the one who told you to.
But yes, thinbk about the others, and also bear in mind that some are easier to talk to than others.
Argentis has already done some work here.
I'm happy to skip the meeting - perhaps someone could give me a brief resume of the investigation so far? I understand the background of there being an obvious traitor who's stitched the group up on a couple of occasions, but are any of the lords particular suspects, or others who are definitely OK?
