Well, Edmund is not a noble; he ahcieved fame the old fashiond way, by being rather good.

"I did not expect a Halfling in this contest..." he says, when he sees you.

Still, he is famous, right?

William gives an odd little bow. "William Took, sir," he says. "I did not expect to be competing against the King's Archer! It's a pleasure to meet you."

Yes! And certainly very popular.

He offers his hand. He's tall and red haired; not muscular but with a firm grip. "Edmund of Fornost," he says. "You have cause for bows, in your lands?"

"Not often but for sport," Will says, "a hobbie, if you will. A Hobbit hobbie."

"Then shoot well, Master Took..." he says, firmly.

"Thank you, sir," William says, giving another little bow and moving to assume his spot on the archery range.

I give Darvan a little nudge and say: "Look at those guys. Hobbits always struck me as such nice people."

Well, everyone is lined up! What's your move, William?

"Half the man but twice the heart, eh?" Darvan laughs goodnaturedly.

"Probably, but only a fourth the warrior I suppose"

William will aim for the bull!

Well, we are only concerned with you and Edmund...

... and you both socre in the black! Oooh, it's on now... the crowd is very keen!

The King is watching carefully as well.

William prepares his arrow again and lets it fly for the bull.

Ohhhhhhh, tension... you both score in the black again!

Well, William will put a third arrow to his bowstring and aim for the bull a third time.

"I think the small man just proved you wrong, friend," Darvan mutters.

"Not bad, but my people base their opinion of a warrior on the way he uses a sword"

"A sword is well and good," interrupts Menelacar, "except that if you're shot down before you can use it, then it counts for little. The Hobbit knows he cannot match us for strength or reach, but when you can shoot a bow like that, well...."

I respond to Menelacar in kind voice: "I see your point Menelacar. But seeing as my people wage war from horse back in a much more mobile way than most men we consider the use of Lance and sword more important."
"Never the less it is, as you said good thinking from the hobbit to consider his lack of reach and strength. Since my people have not yet encountered hobbits they didn't think of it in that way."

"Never the less I consider myself quite good with a bow, but not an expert like those man there or like the experts from my own tribe"

An enormous roar from the corwd!

Two more blacks!

Tie break!
