is it just me, or has sven been england coach for too long?he hasnt really made any progress, and when you consider that this england team over teh last couple of years, leftsided players or not, is probably the best they've had for a good 10 years, he should have done a lot better. luckily for the english, hes off after the world cup. unless... they win. i can see the fa overturning their own decision and keeping him on.

who you all reckon will be next england manager?

id like to see Scolari manager, i dont have some patriotic urge to have an english manager

Ditto I say get the best person for the job. I think Guus Hiddink will get the job though.

no it isnt.... its not about the players

having a manager who the players like is necessary, but not at the expense of tactical and managerial ability.

Sven is loved by the players, but thats just led to him not gettin the best out of them, and he just moleycoddels the big name players

we know what the team is going to be in the world cup. all the manager needs to do is get the tactics spot on. after that its down to the players.

These players have had their chance to play well together and they showed that they are not the best combination of players that the english team have.

The midfield right needs to be changed to somebody with pace; Shaun Wright-Phillips. Although he does need to start getting some games for Chelsea I think that if he does then his pace will be a good attacking asset to the team. The centre of midfield could also be changed with a definsive midfielder slotting in for one of the two that are already there. Preferably someone who playws there every week rather than a defender such as Rio or Ledly.

Martin O'Neill is the man for the job. No questions need to be asked, you can all agree that he would do brilliant with them. Hopefully his problems going on in his personal life will be sort out and Manchester United won't get him to replace Fergie.

id go with hiddink, his record is impressive

The funny thing is, despite Sven being the worst manager ever overall, IF....IF England win the world cup, I doubt he'll lose his job.

He should, they have great players now. They deserve a better manager.

In other news, what's everyone's opinion on the most surprisingly good team in the premiership right now?

west ham are surprisingly good. bolton are doing great but that doesnt surprise me, they are solid. wigan also are surprisingly good.

oh and also man city. stuart peace has done a great job

I think Bolton and Wigan are the two who have surprised me most, Wigan more so.

I think Wigan could hold their own against the top sides in the league even if those sides were on form. I don't think Bolton, barring home games, could do the same although they are very solid now.

West Ham just have a few decent players and happen to be triumphing over lapsed teams, but I personally wouldn't say they're good. To each their own.

i expected west ham to be in the relegation zone. but they are 9th in the table. that has surprised me greatly because like you said, they dont seem to be that good when you see them play

all arsenal need is a decent defender and a class defensive midfielder. they need to get experience.
when arsene has done that, they will be a force again.

as for their team, they seem to have tried to copy Tottenham (edit not copy, but we both have similar programs) with the investment of good quality youth players, but rather than bless them with talent and potential, theyve just sacrificed their solidity in every area of the field... because their older experienced players aren't great vocal motivators and mentors... Pires is a cheat, and also not very tactical/physically dominant, Campbell has personal issues and quite clearly isnt 100% for the club. Henry is a good mentor but he's a striker and cant track back to help out, bolster morale etc.

Theyre gettin physically muscled off the pitch even their centre backs, which should never ever happen.
Spurs however have big influential players all through the centre of the pitch in King/Dawson, Davids and Mido, they stop whats happening to Arsenal from happening to us.
