Thing is though, the refs and asisstants sometimes don't pick up on players being offside and because of that, goals are being allowed when they shouldn't. I think that football needs to come into the 21st century and start using video replays for the refs so they can get a different view of it and microphones so that eveyone can hear what is being said like in rugby.

Problem: it would cut the pace of the game. A football game as like 50% of played time (kinda depends on the type of football) most of the time is faults and the ball out of the playing field...injuries,etc. That would make it even slower and less playing time.

Good point but clubs keep getting screwed out of points with goals that are allowed when the player is clearly offside.

Yes...and plays that are called off-side and arent and clean goals that are called off-side...but. Maybe some kind of sensor that detects an off-side lol

hehe, if only!!!

I think it could easily be solved, video replay wouldn't take that much time, I mean they have to walk all the way back to their starting positions and kick if off again, by that time an official could have already noted the offside goal, if not than let it be

Still think it would take to long. There are alot of attacks started by off-side calls.

nah why would it take too long it doesn't take that long to rewind a tape and watch
I mean the number of times players and coachs get upset because they were allegedly off-side or not is numerous, so I think it is worth it

say, can someone help me out on this one please?
I saw Nantes-Auxerre for the semi-finals of the french cup and Landreau stopped three penalties in total, but two had to be taken again, one time he started BEHIND his line (that I can understand) and the other time he leaned to one side (NOT moved) before the ball got hit by the player.

What are the exact rules or what ever when taking a penalty?

not a 100% sure you tried www.fifa.com?

good call FM 🙂
I'm checking it out as we speak 🙂

Still think it would break the rhythm of the game.

it wasn't there

i agree with kes. the beauty of football is its fast nature.

well, if you go to get tapes and such to see if the ref got it right, it kinda ruins the game, doesn't it?

I mean, what do you do if your fav team loses? you go complaining about the ref, that's how it is, if you can't complain about him, what else or who else will you blame that you lost? that crappy striker you have or what?

LOL

it would indeed slow the game down...I mean if the ref would suspect an offside, he'd have to a)tell the guys with the camera to check it out;b)let the game continue in case it wasn't and then stop it later if it turns out it was.

it wouldn't take that long
A) they always flag even if they only think it is offside, now they should just continue to play it normaly results in a shot on goal anywayz, which turns out to be either a goal kick or a restart 99% of the time) this should create enough time
B) it works in american football so why not here

I personaly dont really care I just think they could do it here as well

the only thing that gets me annoyed is that the linesmen flag BEFORE they see who gets the ball!
that resulted that (I think) Standard Liège got away with a draw and otherwise would have lost, getting my fav team (Cl Br) a lot closer again

It would create confusion. It always does.

idd it would create a bit of confusion at first but after a few weeks people would get it
