I don't think the comparisons between Blackburn's title win in '95 and Leicester's surge toward the title this season are entirely justified. Blackburn had a pretty expensively assembled squad that had taken them a couple of years to put together, I think they had finished 2nd the year before too, so it wasn't as unexpected as Leicester have been this season. I guarantee you though, if they do win the title, a movie won't be too far away.

I agree that you can't really compare the two teams, blackburn had a lot of known players with experience in first division football especially the likes of shearer/sutton going into the 95 season and i bet a lot of people predicted for top 3 finish compared to Leicester who no one expected at all

i actually said Leicester back in August as a joke.

If I put a pound on it, I would've won 5000 pounds.

For any American fans here: Google Christian Pulisic. He's only 17 and yet has already played six times for Borussia Dortmund, one of the best clubs in the world. American soccer fans have gotten their hopes up over nothing many times before, but unlike all the Freddy Adus and Jozy Altidores of the past, Pulisic is already showing he can compete with the best of Europe. He resembles a young Landon Donovan, only unlike Donovan who was never driven enough to hack it in Europe, Pulisic seems to be willing and able to fight for minutes.

And he got his first goal. A good one too.

I wonder both of my favourite Team, Atletico and Munchen play the second leg of UEFA Champions League. Atletico won the first leg, but what do you think that would happen in second leg?

Atletico win 1-0 or a 1-1 draw.

I'll believe that when I see it. Not saying they can't do it, but Bayern Munich are undefeated this season at home, and it's kind of their champions league calling card to go down away and then crush the opposition 4-0 or 5-1 at home.

Hooray!!!! Atletico finally reach to the final because they won to Munchen this morning and they finally beated them by agreggate!!!

Wohoo!!! Go Los Rojiblancos!!!

I wonder how long it will be before they remove the away goals rule. It made sense when playing an away game meant a week-long boat ride and possibly playing on an unmowed pitch in some shitty little foreign city, but at this point it's kind of an archaism.

What do you suggest they replace it with?

Personally I don't think it's realistic to keep adding on games until one team finally wins 3 out of 5 or whatever. That's just creating a health-risk for the players and will detract from the quality of play. I think the away-goal rule can seem unfair at times but I think it's the best option there is, really. Only playing one game per round would be unfair as well, as one of the teams would be allowed home-advantage and the other wouldn't...

Well, what happens now if there's a tie on aggregate and no away goals is that it goes to extra time in the second leg, and if there's no tie breaker it goes to penalties.

They could just apply that to games regardless of whether there's an away goal difference.

I guess, but that would also result in over-straining players. And you always have people who complain about penalties and that as well. I personally don't mind the away goals rule.

I don't think the players would mind, really, if it meant they didn't have to worry about the other team winning because of one lucky goal in their stadium. As I explained, this is how it happens anyways if there are no away goals, so it's not as if the players aren't already facing the possibility of extra time.

-shrug-

I like the away goals rule. It isn't always fair, but the only option I would see replacing it is extra time and penalties. I'm not a fan of making them play replay after replay.

You have to look at it from the bigger picture though. Most players these days aren't able to play complete seasons anyway, they all get at least minor injuries taking them out for multiple games. Some world class players like Robben miss almost entire seasons due to injuries. Adding extra time (30 minutes per game + penalties if need be) indiscriminately to knock-out ties in the CL, EL and domestic cups over the season will only strain players more. It's not about them caring to play that extra bit, it's about their bodies deteriorating at an even more accelerated pace than they already are.

Either way, I don't have any issues with the away-goals rule. I've noticed that it's mostly people from ''newer'' football countries that seem to take issue with it.

wow, so butt hurt.

As for removing away goals rule, that really gives an advantage to the second leg team.

Anyone else think Newcastle's relegation is karma for how they handled the whole Gutierrez thing?
