but when the british media refer to him as the best player in the world and pile all the hype on him...and the commentators scream the house down every time he gets the ball in the vain hope that he is going to produce some magic (which ive never seen him do yet) then that is way over rated...yes he has power...yes he has pace...both in abundance...but he has very little footballing genius...i think he lacks the vision and awareness of the entire pitch that players like maradona had...personally i think Gazza was a better player than rooney ever will be...simply because he had the vision of a brilliant player...the only vision rooney has is straight at the goal...even if that means hammering it 35 yards...and he fluffs loads of good opportunities because of it
regardless of position...and rooney is best played as a support to the strikers anyway imo...
he just seems...greedy...obviously this will or should change with experience but at the moment i cant help but feel he squanders chances because he would rather take a difficult shot himself than lay it off for an easy goal to another player...
I personally dont see that.
I rather have greedy players who shoot than try to make that extra pass.
In hockey, most goals are come from rebounds. Somebody shoots, it goes somewhere, the goalies is completly away from the areas = goal.
In football, in the limited games ive seen, somebody tries to pass, they get into the penatly box, try to pass, its gets knocked down and kicked away. Why dont they shoot?
Football intelligence. I think Rooney is a natural striker. The game against Portsmouth shows that he has that "football genius". He deked out that goalies hardcore.
And magic? Well I guess he doesnt do bicycle kicks or some superman style free kick or whatnot. But in terms of scoring when needed, he has proven that he gets those goals when the team despertly needs them.
Exactly.
What is football genuis anyways?
Doesnt position mean anything also?
I think it would. A defender skill would be different than a striker, so you cant compare them in terms of intelligence skill.
In American football, you cant compare an running back intelligence to a free-safety. The do completely different jobs.

football genius for me is shown by the players who have total awareness of the game around them...they show vision enough that they can lay off passes to players they dont have to see to know that they are there
people mention defenders...beckenbauer had that vision
frank rijkaard had it...
the player i think who has exhibited it in recent times is zidane...i remember seeing him standing with his foot on the ball...a player came flying in to slide tackle him from his right while he was looking to his left....without even looking at the ball...he simply dragged it back and the guy went flying past...completely missing the ball..zidane then simply passed the ball away...no frills...no fancy stuff....just pure vision and awareness
that footballing genius
What a bad game Man U had. Yesh, that was horrible. C. Ronaldo played awful. There was atleast 3 chances he had where he kicked, missed horribly and/or should of passed. Also, the defense was god awful, Crespo's shouldnt of gotten that header in. Ferdinand wasnt even defending him.
So I think that they lost because of Ronoldo and the defense
As a side note, Rooney didnt play good either but its hard to get a shot on net when nonbody gives you the ball.

with a bunch of primadonna's like man u what do you expect...their team that won the champions league had very few big names but they played magnificently as a team...now with players like rooney and ronaldo and other grubbing, poaching bassas...well...the results are showing for themselves
imo
