The biggest problem with the movie i saw was that you see a planet of Predators, one of them sees some bad shit going on down at earth and goes to sort it out. One predator. So you think "ok, if it gets hairy he'll call in some back up and its on" but it never happens. No matter what happens, he stays solo. Come on, like another 2 preds would have hurt the movie.
And even compaired to AvP 1, the humans in this were badly writen, Alien was brilliant because it had Rippley, Predator was brilliant because it had Dutch, but this...meh. Who gives a shit about the prissy idiot that dates jocks. So the pizza boys a whingy pussy. How do you make a ex-con so boring? Why not just call the mother Ripley instead of making her a crap clone? Sure there were some cool moments, but when theres so much crap in between...

I didn't mind the movie it was on par with the first one not bad and it was better than alien 3 and resurection
But you could tell that it was directed by 2 special effects guys that took what the fans were saying literally and put in everything that was in every other movie including a little girl. the fans wanted 1 pred they got it, a a ripley like character they got it. lots of blood got it, lots of aliens got it, predator home world got it, more weapons got it.
Hopefully they will release an extended edition of the DVD to have things maybe make more sense.
I don't think we were ever suppose to give a shit about any of the characters, same in alien(with the exception of ripley) and predator(except for dutch) aliesn(ripley and hicks) predator 2 (harrigan) avp (lex) avp-r (the military chick?) but lets face it these movies are about the aliens and predators that's it. nothing else should matter.
I think what they need to do is bring in some descent stars to root for, it would be great for the series to bring adam baldwin (garber predator 2) back in the sci-fi community would love that and maybe have jake busey come in as peter keys son?
You detracted your own argument by saying they need to bring in a "decent star to root for." Thats just my point, the Alien and Predator movies were great because they HAD a great centeral human character to root for, they didn't just put in cardboard cutouts so the monsters have something to kill.
And yes, they did put in "what the fans wanted" but when it came to the characters the fans wanted, they did it in the laziest way possible, by going "these guys are kinda like the old characters you loved, why not love them too?"
My fault I guess I contradicted myself there. What I meant to say was that in alien and aliens you had the actors and the aliens, in predator and predator 2 you have the actors and preds, so you can root for one or the other, but with AVP the last 2 were all about the preds and aliens and you are right the humans are just to kill and breed more aliens, so there would be no need to care about any of the humans. so for the 3rd AVP they should bring in some good actors Adam baldwin for example to work for weyland yutani, and a couple of marine personnel to live at the end of the movie. I think once they fully incorporate the weyland yutani coporation into the series it will make it much better.
They dont need to try and develop character for just one species, they need to do it euqally for all 3, if they made the humans, preds and aliens "well rounded" (harder with the aliens and preds, but their original movies did kinda do it for them to a degree) then the movie would be fine...well, should be fine...
This is what i expect from a movie with a Giger Alien in it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwr_Pj43k5k
anything less is unacceptable. Cameron made aliens with less than half the budget of these piece of shit AvP movies. His final product resulted in classic cinematic gold.

Good clip there, I loved that movie and the special edition made it even better, I have no idea why the studio cuts those scenes, just because of time? all the scenes that were added in had relevance to the story and made it more suspensfull.
If the studio were to use my idea and actually bring the weyland-yutani company into the 3rd movie, then it would open way more doors to have some good characters, marines and company officals alike that we can care if they live or hope that they die. like burke in aliens you so wanted him to die and he did.

I actually liked AvP........it's nothing great but I found it to be a decent little popcorn flick.
I don't understand this phrase or the mentality that causes it. It strikes me as a nice way of saying the movie had no substence and was as important as is the lettuce in a salad that serves as a vehicle for the ranch dressing.
If a movie is as disposable as this kind of sentiment implies, then why even go and see it? Of course, I've never viewed going to the movies as a reason to graze on popcorn and sour patch kids.
With all the deep respect I have for Alien, Aliens and the director's cut of Alien 3. And for Predator one... I finally had the courage to allow myself to see AVP1... What a piece of utter crap. I doubt AVP:R would be any better. Reviews have it that it's even worse. Somehow, I don't find that hard to believe.

dude, AvP;R makes the the first look like a masterpiece. AvP;R is like dawsons creek meets aliens and predator. If you puked from watching the first one. The sequel, pisses in your puke. This movie, insulted me, almost as much as another Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer movie.
I know that i am beating a dead horse by continuously saying how shit this movie is, but its shittiness, warrants every bad review it gets. There is not one redeeming factor. The fighting is so dark and enclosed, you cant even use your imagination to visualize what's taking place. The writing and acting, well...,watching a monkey pretend to be human is a more believable display of acting. If the main characters arent teenagers, they are the most cliched characters ever, so that describes the writing.
This really could have been an incredible franchise.
Let's face it, folks. We're never going to get back the original 2 Predator movies or first 3 ALIEN movies as long as Fox decides to keep raping both franchises, unless the entire group of fans and critics alike make a big enough bitching to them.
But as rages said, it's a damn shame what Fox, Anderson, ADI, Salerno and the Bros have done to the AVP series. And it had so much potential too....

Alien 3 sucked, if Fox was smart they would start that franchies right after ALIENS, just have Ripley wake up and say what a terrible dream 😆
Avp-r wasn't bad but wasn't great either, that is what you get when you get a special effects guy to make a movie, just watch starship troopers 2 to prove that theory.
The brothers took everything the fans said they wanted to see literally and put it in the movie, hanging bodies, the way the pred drop ship landed, the sounds, even the alien crawling under the gang plank with the predator above, just like arnie in the first predator. and a bunch of others.
Predator 1 and 2 were very good.
They will have to merge the series avp with aliens and once that is done then they will be free to do what ever they want.
I have sent an idea for this to fox, James cameron and 2 writing companies, but heard nothing back, no surprise there.
From whom? 😂

Alien 3 sucked,
I felt the same way until I saw the 20 minute longer director's cut on the Quadrilogy Box. That was really quite an impressive film. For the theatrical version they took out the most intelligent and unqiue bit right out of the middle. So Fox started raping there.
