General Grievous? meh…

Personally I don't think Grievous was much of a coward at all.

He retreats from the battle with Anakin and Kenobi because the ship was falling out of orbit. That's not cowardly, that's smart.

On Utapau he fights Kenobi one-on-one, even though there's thousands of droids that he could have ordered to do the dirty work for him.

Even after losing two hands, he's still ready to continue the fight. Kenobi does the cheap thing with a Force push. Only then does Grievous run. And why not? There's a clone army breathing down his neck, he's lost his weapons and is facing an armed opponent. Again that's not cowardly, that's smart.

Plus, when Kenobi catches up they fight again. If Grievous was a coward, wouldn't he have just surrundered at that point?

Dont forget, after the force push, Grievous didnt have his lightsabers ✅

Greivous was horribly unnecessary. You might say he was needed to lead the droids...no he wasnt. Dooku could have fulfilled that role easily, yes, yes, it'd mess up half of RotS's story, but Grievous really wasn't needed.

It's a shame that the PT does seem to throw in pointless villains (Maul, Grievous, even Jango despite his importance, was overused and relied on).

And the thing about 4 sabers? That is silly. When will people realise that one single saber is the most iconic, the best? It makees Grievous seem like a cheap way to advertise SW merchandise, as was Maul.

I never saw the point in the character and I still don't. He was INTENDED to be cowardly, that was Lucas' idea. He wanted a typically old school "you'll never catch me coppers!" kind of villain. That still doesn't give him a reason to be in the movie, though. Screen candy and nothing more.

It would have made a bit more sense if Dooku and Grievous' roles were switched.

Like have Grievous as the "Jabba" of Episode III who dies in the intro bit. Dooku was a better character and should have lasted to push Skywalker, like Vader did with Luke in ROTJ. Anything but that crap about influencing midichlorians and "saving Padme" powers. Just have Dooku push Skywalker over the edge and flip out on the Jedi because of it. It would have made Luke's actions in ROTJ made even more special, because Luke would have been in the exact same situation as his father, and it would also explain why The Emperor was so damn cocky and confident that Luke would turn. Now it makes no sense, because the plot Sidious concocts to turn Anakin is way more complicated than the "turn Luke" plan.

Also, I really hate the duel between Obi-Wan and Grievous. The bit where Obi-Wan does that force push ("I don't think so"😉 looks really badly editted. Not only that, but his four arms are quickly reduced to two in a few seconds. The so-called eye candy has lost his edge, which makes him EVEN MORE pointless.

The only thing that was ANYTHING good about Greives was his MasterFull Speed and The Fact that he had FOUR ARMS WHO SAYS 4 SABERS ARE BETTER THAN ONE!? is it just me or do all Jedi/Sith/Villians who DONT have the Single blade thing REALY get screwed? we have seen Darth Maul with the double bladed lightsaber get raped by Obiwan Kenobi with 1 lightsaber then we see the CHOSEN FVCK ONE get OWNED by Darth Tyranus when He picks up Obiwans Lightsaber and does that whole 1 lightsaber in each hand jig and gets his arm severed. then GENERAL GREIVES GETS PWNED by ObiWan with 4 lightsabers in HALF the time it takes to kill MAUL!

No. Of course thats opinion and a lot of the Star Wars characters are quite rubbish etc. but Grievous really is silly.

What a wasted opportunity. Grievous looked fantastic yet had the personality of Dick Dastardly with a Russian accent.

He coughs for the same reason Vader does that heavy breathing. Grievous is just a foreshadow of what Anakin will become. Plus they couldn't give Grievous a huge battle because then the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan duel wouldn't seem as big.

Yet as Vaders breathing is iconic, disturbing, atmospheric etc. Grievous' cough is lame. I mean....its a cough.

There's not much to defend Grievous with tbh...he was just another bad villain like maul.

I wouldn't say the IDEA of Grievous was a bad idea, just that he was used in completely the wrong way.

Like I said, if he was a peripheral villain, like Jabba The Hutt was, then he might have had more of a purpose. Killing Dooku off before Grievous made absolutely no sense. They should have swapped the Dooku fight for the Grievous one in my opinion. Anakin and Obi-Wan taking on Grievous would have made more sense, made the two Jedi look more balanced against the villain, and also would have been really interesting to watch. Dooku was so wasted and its a shame.

He was used about as wrongly as Darth Maul and Jango Fett were before him.

Maul wasn't used enough (this goes for Dooku), when he should have been developed more, wheras Jango Fett and Grievous were given WAY to much importance to the story for what their characters were worth.

I understand what your saying about the idea of Grievous and your right the way he was used in the wrong way, but i still don't believe he was necesary at all.

Its just weird. Why would you chuck another villain in to a film that has the wrap up tonnes of plot points etc. when you can just change a few of your existing villains roles (such as Dooku being the droid general aswell, or even the hologram of Sidious telliing them where to attack).

I also agree with your point about swapping the fights over so Anakin and Kenobi vs. Grievous, which would make a Dooku, Anakin fight much more personal. Also to create a point of high drama in the film, having Dooku and Anakin fighting in Sidious senate room while Sidious watches, and as there fighting, Mace and co. coming in to arrest Palpatine would have been a good idea. With so much going on, it would have captivated the auidence.

I actually think that Maul should have been scrapped as a villain anyway, or maybe just as Obi's little challenge in TPM, as a servant of Sidious instead of apprentice.

Then they could have built up Dooku's character in TPM, he would have fitted in with the politics well.

Haha, I would've actually liked to see Grievous and Dooku get killed right after each other like in the general video game stereotype.

I don't like that idea of Dooku fighting Anakin while Sidious watches. It just doesn't feel right. If anything they killed Dooku off to early. Obi-Wan should have gone after him like he did Grievous and killed him in a huge lightsaber duel or something.
