ahh not good...
bomb or something.

"Illegal? Since when is a Jedi Council sanctioned mission illegal."
Rona continues to rush forward

"He refers to our presence in this Vault," Jelena says. "But that would imply that we wish to take from it. No, Miran, we merely wish to stop the presence of the Dark Side from infecting the people of this planet, including the Z'Har, Kuylen's men, and ourselves. The Jedi Council did not send us to plunder, they sent us to put an end to the destruction. I am supposing it was you who allowed things to happen that Volun managed to take hold of this place."

Jelena hears the faint hum, and ponders whether or not it is a lightsaber.

Glad Jelena remembered that. Oh well, Roan's not in the best of moods right now for details like that, we can assume.

You make it to the end of the long corridor of shelves and turn again. Close now...

"See? The justifications, as I said. And now, Jedi, it is too late for you. You shall... what? NO!"

There is a faint sound, under the hum, that you do not quite recognised, and then a softer, organic noise.

Then an agonised cry, and the sense of death.

Jelena clenches her eyes closed in despair and shock for a moment, before opening them and breaking into a run.

Your heart races as you dash forwards. Another corner, another corner... no more gloating now.

And then one more, and you are there, at the heart of the labyrinth. Tall bookcases stand all around this circular area. In the middle, there is a strange device, about as large as you are, pulsing heavily and with a hum that is increasing in pitch.

Some five feet away from it lies the Venerable Z'Har, writhing in pain. It looks like something has torn through his midriff.

Ok, Gallagher, those Mooks get one more attack on you, which I assume you Defend. They miss.

The penalty from Flurry is tricky for Andro to get a good roll with... but afetr two misses, the third stroke is a hit with a +3! Varm thinks he has the better of this badly injured Jedi, but Andro is far from finished yet, as the last blow flicks through the air to slash a chunk out of Varm's left arm. He screams in pain... tries to fire back, but now his aim is off... miss.

(Finally impaired that sucker! OK, I'll follow up with a Sword Whirl and a normal attack. Force Dodge his shots.)

Andro begins to see the light at the end of the tunnel when he scores a hit on Varm's arm. He's breaking through his defences now, plus spoiling his dangerous aim. "Give up, Varm. You don't have to die today." Adnro advised him, but didn't really think it would help. Varm was as good as dead anyway, for his part in the thousands of murders comited in the Tranquil Repose. Andro swings again...

(PS, if that is what I think it is on Cassilis, I'm really afraid for the end of our mission...)

(What, Jazz?)

Jelena steps over to Miran, eyeing the strange device with distrust. Remaining on her guard, she bends to inspect Miran's lasceration.

"Miran, what has happened?" she asks calmly.

Gallagher nods in approval of Andro's blow, before charging out of the battle to find Zaland and Kathya.

Jelena- he's dying. That wound is fatal. Four great gaps torn through him.

He gasps again in pain and tries to reach over to the humming device.

"Too late..." he manages. "Can't be stopped now. NO!"

Jelena feels somewhat helpless.

Was the humming sound actually this strange device, not a lightsaber?

"What is this thing, Miran?" Jelena asks, persistently. "I must know!"

"It will destroy the Vault... it was the only way... pointless now."

He gasps, and blood spatters over his front.

"No!" Jelena says. "What has happened to you? What is going on?"

Jelena looks to Roan. "Find out what this thing is, and stop it!"

Can Jelena still Sense the disturbance? And is this strange device glowing blue?

"Too late, too late..."

He falls back onto the floor. But then, with a sudden burst of strength, he reaches up and grabs you.

"Got it wrong," he says. "ALL wrong... knew what it was, what they wanted, but not their methods..."

He coughs again- more blood. He is nearly gone.

"Wasn't you they wanted," he gasps again. "But ME! Followed ME inside! Waited for ME!" His voice carries near astonishment.

"Too clever... too clever... knew what would happen if you came. Knew how we would all react. Knew I would expose the Vault to try and stop you. Made fools of me, of you... made fools of ALL of us! We have all served them!"

He gives out a strangled cry.

"The device, Jelena... you can't stop it. But it has sealed all the secret exits. The lift shaft is the only way out now, for anyone.

"Stop her, Jedi. You must not let her escape! Must not let her take it to the one that seeks it"

His grip loosens, as he gives out one final missive.

"The Lady MUST NOT KNOW!"

His grip loosens, he falls back once more, and he is dead.

Jelena sighs.

"Poor, manipulated man," Jelena sighs, waving a hand over his face to close his eyes with the Force and giving a silent prayer for him. "What did he mean? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough."

Jelena will rise and beckon for Roan to follow, rushing with all due speed back to the lift, using Blur where appropriate.

Roan- after a cursory look at the device, which he hasn't got a clue about- has been following the trail back from the puncture wounds that killed him.

In a bookcase down back the way you came, embedded in the wood are five bloodstained darts.

Odd.

The machine starts to crackle and spark- it is about to blow.

Jelena will race onto the lift, plucking a dart as she goes- for evidence- and holds it open for Roan.

And there are five? He only had four wounds. They seem to have gone a ways.

Well, it was Roan who found them, was the thing.

Meanwhile... err.. you are not entirely sure you remember the way out of here.

I'll let him deal with the darts, then.

And oh goody. Would Sense be useful at all for judging right way-wrong way? And could we leap upwards onto the top of bookshelves to judge the right place?

And I think I know where the fire in Roan's vision is going to come from.

Well, you'd think so, but it seems just about everything is screwed up in this place's weirdness...

The machine explodes. Or rather, it seems to fall apart. A blue cracking ball of energy is now at its heart, the hum continuing, and it starts to expand, at walking pace.
