I think we should just keep it as simple as possible - we have a horrible track record with complex plans. I'd very much like this to go right for a change.
Get the generator, get it back to the ships, disassemble it if necessary, load it, leave. If there's anyone not busy working on this, then they can concentrate on getting some spare parts.
Big things we need to know: where to get a generator, and getting some transport for said generator.
Do remember to move things to their logical extension.
For example, people buy shield generators. Not very often, but it soes happen.
As not all shield generators are used on this world, logically the means must exist to move them, else they would be useless.
So don't waste effort duplicating a system that already exists.
Okay. So here's what we need to do.
- Find out where to get a generator (if we can't steal them from where we're sold, it's logical to think that there's a storehouse of some sort where they're actually kept, so we need to find that).
- Find out how they are transported.
- Get the damn thing and get it back to the ships.
Might need to do some asking around to get the info for the first bit, when we find where to get one we should be able to get the info for the second bit.
Yeah, but disassembling it at the place we steal it from is probably a MUCH worse idea. If we take it apart by our ships we could be like "yeah, we didn't know how big it would be, it turned out to be larger than expected and we need to use two of our ships to get it home." While if we were to do that where we stole it from we would be more likely to get caught, I'd think.

come to think of it...do we even have to lie about what we're carrying?
so what..we bought s sheild generator. the starport's job is to control trafic. who cares where we're taking it. so i assume we kip hiding it TOO much.
It's going to be very difficult to steal it and be innocuous.
Unless you take the money stealing option, which brings its own complications.

even still that could be trouble. Since we could be linked to the theft as well as our ships that means we would a) be unable to go back if anything should arise and b) the Bureau could get involved.
If we manage to not attract too much attention and not be recognized, though, they won't realize who it was that did it. Remember, the Bureau's not expecting us. They think we're dead.
Maybe mind-trick someone into selling us a generator for free?
