Comic Book Questions

Started by Blair Wind575 pages

Not a "comic book" question per say, but meh. There was an episode on either Discovery Channel or the Science Channel once covering various super powers (Spidermans, Wolverines, Cyclops, Xavier, Storm, Hulk...those are the ones I can remember). I had a copy of it, but lost it, and cant find it anywhere online. Anyone by chance know where I can find it online?

Your are about to engage in a guest that will leave you both enlightened but fruitless. You might as well be a philosopher analyzing the definition of knowledge. Do not take the same path i did ... save yourself. No good will come of it.

Otherwise, read a book by Michu Kacku called the science of the impossible, this is a good starting point. Then move onto books such as Science of Superman, science of the X-men, the science of heroes. When you have finished with these consider books written by Roger Penrose, and philosophers such as George Berkley and Plato. Also a fictional book called Th End of Mr Y. Then you will begin to understand how possible Super powers are. Also pick up focus magazine, and New scientist, whenever there is a weird concept on the front cover. Eventually you will become as Mad as me, but simultaneously as miserable. Note in the process, any ideas that you hold about morality and religion will definitely be changed.

Hahaha, Good one.

I only tell it how it is ...

I'd suggest reading some books on Physics, biology and chemistry, then you'll realise how impossible superpowers (comic book ones) are.

Most of the powers depicted in comic books (by Wolverine for example) break the fundamental laws of nature. These laws are invariable - have not been broken and never will be.

Yeah but some things like telepathy might be possible (scientists have recently created a machine that can read thoughts, well sort of, only very basic, so if two people had those installed in their heads along with radio transmitters they could communicate "telepathically" - probably another 50 years or so before that could work but it's possible)

I'm not on a quest to find all kinds of definitions of superpowers or plausible methods for them. In that specific episode they feature a way to "gain" hulks superstrength through a (for lack of a better word) steroid that apparently had no steroid like affects. I wanted to write a paper for one of my classes on it.

I think thats not really a "superpower" though, its just a product of technology (like a phone).

Now something like Ironman, that'll be pretty cool.

Two Words Roger Penrose !

with technology, almost all powers are plausible.

for instance, with specific modules applied to the iron man armour, stark can have any power he wants, and an iron man like suit isn't too far away from being a reality.

Anyone read "Dr. McNinja?"

That's the web comic, isn't it? If so I think I read (and enjoyed) some of them a few years back.

question...

beside what the anti-life equation itself is, what does seven soldiers have to do with final crisis?

Yeahhh, brilliant webcomic. It's still running at http://www.drmcninja.com/

Just wondering if anyone else was familiar mainly because Cornell, the writer of Captain Britain seems to be- he stole an idea directly from it, and now, apparently, Marvel Universe Dracula lives in a force-field protected MOON BASE!

I just think that's awesome.

Question: Does Noh-Varr have the nega-bands? I know he ran into Skrull-Vell at the end of SI, but they don't ever show him with them yet he's shown flying and blasting in the big melee. What gives?

I'm sorry if this has been asked already

One for all the Bat-fans. I've been trying to make sense of the whole Jason Todd thing. Basically, this is what i have.

Jason dies in the explosion.

Superboy Prime messing with time in the present changes history so that Jason Todd does in fact survive.

Time tries to reset itself and find some sort of consistency, so instead makes Jason dead, but revives him six months later.

Do i have it right?

Wait, what? What does any of that mean?

He proposed that as the chronological sequence of events, and asked for verification.

I verified his proposition.

He thanked me for my input.

Clearer?
