kang is richards. also rama and iron lad. immortus is kang in the future, (or richards i think) but the real kang split the immortus persona from himself to become 'destiny-free'. his character is enormously difficult to follow and keep track of.....

It was most likely PC Superman, the artwork was quite modern, dark and little bit abstract. Brainiac had this kind of design
There was also an oldschool loking brainiac created by this brainiac to fights supes.
Superman went to another solar system to watch the remains of his planet, he remembers his parents and his time as a baby, a conversation with batman that he can never let go, batman tells him to sneeze and the door to the fortress of solitude falls out when he does so.
He gets trapped by brainiac and has to fight his way out against the oldschool loking superbrainiac, their fights destroys the whole solar system, when Superman finally has a chance to let go.

Damn, I just downloaded it and it's not the one, close though. I remember Supes complaining, he takes a deap breath and inhales the curtain when he showers.I need to find the German tpb where I had the story and scan it in.
