Their gimmicks are sooooooo outrageous that they can't even take themselves seriously.

Maybe so, but it's a damn shame when you can't understand what the hell a singer is talking about. Unless, of course, it's just a string of randomly generated profanity, human genetalia, and various violent (often sexual) acts.

But the singer from In Flames for example... He writes great lyrics, but you can't understand 90% of them. Very sad... 🙁

I for one don't really care what a band look like, if they make music I like, then that's that. Half of those bands you listed are bad, but like Mister Revan said, CoF, Megadeth and Anthrax aren't death metal, and don't sound like death metal in the slightest.

And please tell me you were joking with At The Gates. They're legends. They pretty much perfected the wonderful melodic metal of Dark Tranquility and In Flames, and like those two (great) bands, they are talented, and do not conform to the usual death metal cliches. Apart from the photo pose, but until image becomes an important factor in musical quality, that's neither here nor there.
