Spiderman naturally could beat Torch if he doesn't take it seriously, but torch fighting on his toes could give the webhead trouble, but so could an angry spidey, spiderman takes advantage of the opponents offensive.
Human torch definitely has the maneuverability advantage, too bad he's not strategical enough.
It would be hard to fight torch out in the open skies of NYC. However, I think Spidey would be smart enough to head into the alleyways and lead him into a trap. You could always resort to the sewers, where water is everywhere.
I think I've seen Spidey put torch out using a water tower before, not sure if I remeber it correctly.
Wait this is to the death by means of the title, if thats the case of spidey being pissed off and torch isn't spiderman wins, he could down him with a 15 ton punch.
Torch attempted to use missle type projectiles and spiderman reflected them with his webbing, so I'm guesssing the same will happen here, besides spiderman usually saves torches butt when they team up (from the start) and slower and weaker villans have given torch trouble, and spiderman had a good showing against the FF already.

i dunno man im still backing torch i got issue 8 of ff from heroes reborn i think its 8 ill check later where on an alternate earth jhonny let out 1 nova blast with enough power 2 vaporise a city block while his power was increased at the time if he was anywhere near spidey hed fry him in one go an the moment spidey got close itd b over imo torch has complete control ... most of the time i just cant see spidey winning unless he got jonny by surprise
Depends on where they fight and on prep time.
Spider-Man with prep time on his side will come in with fireproof webs or some chemical substance to weak the Torch and his powers.
Without prep time, anyone remembers their first meeting?
Spidey entered in the Four Freedom Plaza and battled the FF4, the Torch was flying around him surrounding the room of flames, then throwed fireballs at him, Spidey created a baseball bat made of web and parried some of them, then climbed on the roof, Torch was annoying to fight with him, and shooted at the piece of roof where Spidey was stucked, making it falling on the ground and surrounding it with more flames, Spidey was getting screwed and Torch wasn't even taking it serious.
In that first meeting however he kept the thing,invisible woman, and mr. fantastic down showing how he thinks on his feet, and how he takes on odds like this often.
When spidy and torch teamed up against Kravens son, a strong but non flyer type, johnny rushed in foolishly and was hammered, its kind of his fight approach.
Also Spidey has saved himself from being fried before by making a large shield of webbing. He can whip up a large one really quickly so it depends on how much time it takes the Torch to go nova. Even if he can do it quickly he needs to be able to do it almost instantaneously, cause an attack that powerful and dangerous would set the spider-sense off like an alarm. After a failed nova attack he's useless and he knows it.
Plus with the major weakness of being able to have his flame snuffed in many different ways I'd say that Spidey has a good shot.
It depends a whole lot on where they're fighting.
