Why do people always understimate Qui-Gon? Sure he lost to Maul, but think about it. Maul was young and strong plus he had spent his entire life training to be a fighter. Qui-Gon was getting old and one on one against Maul he really didn't stand a chance since it was an unfair fight without Obi-Wan to help out. I read the novel for TPM and it cleary explains this. In his younger years Qui-Gon was one of the best duelsts in the Order.

Qui-gon is good. One of my favorites. He just inst as good. I wonder if Dooku would have been disapointed. Qui-gon never got close to being as good as him. Still, he is very good, but age doesnt matter much, Dooku and Yoda are proof of that.
Qui-gon lost (like almost all other jedi) because they didn't faced a sith for years and years, not to mention the ones younger the NEVER had. Yoda and mace knew what they were talking about. Now, this fight, though interesting, would last nothing. Dooku would lose. Ben would die and ani injured or killed.
Well, Dooku was outwitted by Anakin, I admit as much. But in this scenario, there is no need for him to abandon Makashi ideals and play with Anakin. He could ruthlessly and quickly dispatch Obi and Anakin. And like I said, Qui-Gon (Though I do like the guy a lot) isn't a good enough warrior to face up against a Sith lord and a former Jedi master aged at eighty, who floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee, and all dat.
He didn't show any evidence of it when he needed it most. That's enough for me. Qui-Gon's style was ill-suited for Maul's relentless attacks. And I doubt Dooku was so stupid as to teach Qui-Gon to be his equal. In any case, Dooku is now a sith as well. His Force manipulation goes beyond Qui-Gon's understanding, and his emphasis on Makashi has only increased. Note he was the only modern master of the Form as well.
Okay, but the basics of his combat style probably wouldn't have changed that much. And remember in the novel where it says Obi Wan used Ataru first? Dooku was beating the living crap out of him and basically standing, rooted i one place. Of course, it was just a ruse, but whatever. If Maul could exploit the flaws in Jinn's combat, Dooku could on the first swing.
This would be interesting, seeing as how Obi Wan trained for 12 years under Qui Gon, and how he in turn trained Anakin for 13 years. Kenobi would be able to work excellently alongside either. However, seeing as how Obi Wan and Anakin have fought greater threats than Obi and Jinn did, they would be a better team. Now, I highly doubt that Jinn, however skilled he is, could kill either Anakin or Kenobi. Back on topic- the trio would work well together, but eventually, they would be overwhelmed by Dooku's saber and Force mastery/
