Man, the forums for the game on Gamestop were acting so idiotic because of this. The guy made totally valid points as to why this game got the "low score" that it did. Just proves that Nintendo fanboys are the worst ones, something I've known for a while.
Regaurdless, it's only one source, every other site/magazine that's reviewed it has given it a near perfect score. Though, I gotta hand it to gamestop and that Jeff guy for at least having the balls to say his honest opinion about it, without worrying about the backlash from the Nintendo fanboys.
Also, IGN just released their reviews, 9.5 -- http://wii.ign.com/articles/746/746691p1.html
I've played for about 2 hours now, and have only JUST reached the first temple. Good god is this game gonna be long.
All those complaints about graphics are unfounded. The game is absolutely beautiful, and the lighting and water effects are insane. I have to stop every once in a while just to look at the scenery, it's so filled with life.
I also have to discredit Gamespot Jeff's accusation of unresponsive controls. It controls like a dream. Aiming projectile weapons couldn't be more natural, and swinging the remote for the sword feels surprisingly right. It's not a tacked-on gimmick, it's how Zelda games need to be controlled from now on.
The story starts off almost hopelessly bland and boring, for the first 45 minutes or so. However, after a pivotal scene, the plot blasts forward, and you're on your way. At several points so far, I've been staring at the screen in awe of something that just happened.
Character emotions are rich, Link is especially emotive through his eyes and mouth. However, right now I think my favorite character is Midna. Her body language, "chattering" voice, and script ooze character, and not necessarily that of a "good" person. You'll have to see her yourself to understand, but she's already the strongest main character of the game.
complaints:
-the bob fishing part was a pain in the ass. hour and a half of trying, instructions were horrible, finally saw the solution on a youtube walkthough,
-damn nintendo for not releasing the component cables yet, because the graphics look like ass on a bigscreen (blurry)
other than that this game is proof that video game critics have their heads up their asses
i love this game 👆
