The Official BLEACH series Thread

In terms of character stuff, the pre-SS volumes are great and very original (which reminds me, Kekkaishi is a great manga that's more like those early volumes). SS was more plot-driven, but still has some great moments, we were in Rukia's head more, Mayuri's fight was important to Uryu, both the Soi Fon fights and the Byakuya/Renji fights clearly had a ton of emotional meaning to each fighter.. they mattered.

Of all the Espada/hueco mundo fights, only Aaronneiro has any great character moments with an existing non-Ichigo character. Also the plot barely moved, it was a giant SS-sized arc where most of the action was eliminating characters who we first got to know during their fights, there was little personal connection. Uryu, Chad, even Ichigo didn't really develop as characters during it. In the end, a bunch of characters, some interesting, some not, were introduced then killed almost to the last.

Shonen in general is more comic bookish than other manga

While true, the fight with him kinda sucked. 😐 In that he went out like a punk.

Probably the first real kick in the dick for me was the utter derailment of Mayuri's character.

"That shady scientist" indeed.

One of the most monstrous characters in the manga reduced to comic relief. Sad times.

Hey! If Aaroniero went out like a punk, then so did Stark, Halibel, and Zommari. C'mon he didn't even get to use his ressurecion's power; he didn't really need to either IMO.

Although I don't think anyone that read/watches Bleach could disagree with the espada being one of Kubo's best creation.

I know Nemu had her porn-star momment but when was Mayuri comic-relief.

Starrk, Halibel, and Zommari DID go out like punks, most Espada did.

Won't argue with that, Barragan is one of my favorite characters, as is Nel Tu, a former Espada.

His "healing" of Nemu first of all. He is not a true "comic-relief" character I'll give you, but he was portrayed as a monster in his original appearance. Uryu seems to have completely forgotten Mayuri's nonchalant butchering of his grandfather.

Could be because Uryu pwned him in their fight.

Though I agree, Mayuri's been somewhat degraded as a character.

Mayuri was my fave "villain" 🙁

now he kinda sucks

Though, if the Hogyoku is destroyed, shouldn't her powers go away?

No cause her powers were awakened by the crystal, not sustained.

Also, Bleach Movie 4 is a mini-Hell arc. Dead series. It's a movie about Hell. It is being watched over, directly, by Tite Kubo. This means one of two things: Tite plans to do his own Hell arc so he is making sure he movie doesn't setup false or totally contradictory expectations OR these were his intentions, all along.

It will REALLY suck if the Hell arc is turned into just a movie: I had high hopes for a Hell arc.

Let's hope it isn't just the movie...I hope it is a 3 year super arc with 2 or 3 arcs.

Anyway, I want to read the next chapter, very very badly.

The Hell thing seems to be a throw-away thing mentioned *once* and never again. I would probably not be so sure there's going to be a hell arc, and if there is it'll probably be something not part of the master plan.

I thought it was a great fight in the 'Rukia fighting against a Vice Captain' sense. He was almost winning and was punked a lot less than, say, Szayel vs Mayuri. Sure, he didn't get to use his 'tens of thousands of hollow powers' thing but it's hard to tell what he'd do with those anyway, Kaien was almost certainly his single stronger power.

And, importantly, it has emotional connection with previous material. The only reason we wanted to see Szayel dead was because he was such an annoying no-seller vs Uryu and Renji. We didn't have a reason to care about him or Zommari or practically any Espada really.

Aaronneiro we cared about because he was Kaien. The others? We have to care about them on the spot.

I don't think we'll have Bleach anymore once this arc ends.

Granted it's very popular, but it has to end sometime. With the way Aizen has been the main antagonist ever since the end of the SS-arc, I think Kubo will close the curtain on Bleach once Ichigo defeats Aizen, and the plot points of the current arc are resolved.

Though to be honest, I wouldn't mind having more Bleach arcs. Ones with a new antagonist and more character development would be a definite plus.

Well, he's stated himself a couple times that he's got at least a couple other arcs planned for after this. So if he's still raking in the cash, and he's got more ideas, I see it going for at least a couple more years.

I think it should end after Aizen dies though as well.

Implying Jump ends their popular titles.

Do you think Zoro will be the best sword fighter any time soon?

I see. Well that's that then. I guess he'll do more arcs.
Though I hope to high heaven that Aizen dies or is taken out in this arc. Can't take much more of that d***head.

Implying popular titles like Dragon Ball & Saint Seiya are still running in WSJ.

Regardless of the nature of your question, I don't read OP. 313

I'll point out most of Starrk's backstory we know was when he was literally dying. So while we cared, we cared in a way largely irrelevant to the wider plot.

I cared about Starrk even before we heard his backstory. As long as the character himself is interesting enough, he doesn't need to be super in depth in order to appreciate him. I like him a lot more than say, Byakuya, even though Byakuya has a ton of background while Starrk has very little.

I actually liked Stark up until he showed that non-primera worthy release. At least he wasn't as disappointing as the vizards. Halibel also got cheated.

I wonder if their really could be a hell arc. Wonder if demons in hell are stronger than hollows and shinigami.

I liked Starrk, one of the better Espada.

Still fave Barragan though. <3

His release was awesome. If they had actually portrayed him as having good accuracy, it would have been one of the deadliest Ressureccion of all. The problem wasn't his powers, the problem was he missed literally every single cero he fired (except one).
