Although I suppose it is possible that Ichigo had to best him first, that may be why the Hogyoku denied him.

Yeah, that's the case. Even though it's dumb (why deny him when you can just make him stronger?)

I guess. This whole chapter really reminded me of that scene from Talladega Nights, 'You know Kisuke, everything cool Ichigo just did, you just ruined it. Yeah, nice job.'

Its just a lame asspull of a way for Goddamn Aizen, the most broken guy in the manga, to go.

Though we learned something about the Soul King. 10 bucks says Aizen will have actually have been trying to dispose of a tyrant and he's the new big bad.

Indeed.

Also, still no sign of Aizen's Bankai. Oh joy.

Yammy for Soul King!

Edit. **** bleach

spoilers for next 100 chapters

Spoiler:
: 1. Ichigo unleashes FGT, WTFpwns Aizen.
2. Ichigo goes emo again in the aftermath as he realizes that he's now powerless, and never got to really reconcile with Hichigo, only to be interrupted by a half-dead Aizen starting to regenerate ("Just as planned...", etc, etc.).
3. Just as Aizen is about to kill Ichigo, everybody shows back up in a Big Damn Heroes moment and Aizen is Killed Off For Real, probably by somebody releasing a bankai we haven't yet seen. It's made abundantly clear that "we couldn't have done it without Ichigo blah blah".
4. Plot coupons from this arc are cashed in, no shinigami or vaizards died, the good/neutral Espada lived and come to an agreement with SS (all hail Queen Nel of HM and her good knight Sir Stark). Gin disappears with Matsumoto. Rukia escorts the humans (and quincy) back to K-Town, since there's NO WAY to bring back his powers. DEFINITELY NO WAY.
5. Ichigo emos some more about being "normal", so Rukia mercifully ends our his suffering by wiping his memories of being a shinigami.
6. Back at school we see that the shinigami have been busy wiping memories, as no one remembers any of the weird stuff, although Ichigo, Orihime, and Chad all have the typical "almost remember moments" that always seem to happen with memory wipes.
7. Ishida of course remembers, and is playing along with Rukia, as a scene with them and Isshin at a deserted Urahara Shop establishes, before Rukia's tearful farewell (tearful for her, at least, as Ishida is as cold as ever).
8. Time passes (insert boring but short "Slice of Life" arc). *cough*time skip*cough*
9. Ichigo gets a visitor one night as an injured Mayuri shows up in his bedroom and lets him wake up just long enough to be freaked out by the bloody face-painted pervert before being knocked out again.

Damn.....Nice job calling it. The first bit anyway, though....At this stage those things are actually looking likely.

Yammy for Soul King!

Since Kyoka Suigetsu just dissolved, I doubt we're going to see it, either. Either that, or Aizen reverts to regular shinigami form, and we get to see his Bankai and Urahara's in a final fight. That would be neat.

Losing powers, having memories wiped...I'm getting a major case of deja vu here. How many times has this been repeated in other Anime/Mangas?

Who had their memories wiped?

Kenpachi and Byakuya, after they discovered Yammy was in fact the Soul King.

that was an interesting chapter

**** Bleach!

Seriously. **** Bleach!

Shinigami in general need to die now!

Am I the only one thinking the Hogyoku might will itself to join with Ichigo because of strength of heart or something like that?

Somebody should shoot Kubo if he thinks of that.

Aside from wondering what happened to Aizen, why did Kisuke have to ruin Ichigo's one cool momment in months upon months of him sucking.

I think something like that might happen and ichigo will have another "inner battle" to destroy it permanently

ha, and if that does happen, then Ichigo is more than likely going to end up either getting his powers back along with the bonus of using the final getsuga whenever he wants or getting new powers all together.

but it was an interesting chapter. wonder what happened to Yourichi.

I think the Hogyoku will just give Ichigo his powers back, rather than giving him newer ones or fusing with him as it did with Aizen. There's no way we're gonna have the main character powerless for any significant amount of time.

well it seems like it's pretty much over

all we need is a rap up chapter now... right?

Bleach is totally awesome 😄

Yammy for Soul King!

I wonder if he has thought up a bankai for him.

I enjoyed the chapter. And, yes, I'm with Nemebro: Ichigo had to smack down Aizen in order for the crystal to "diffuse" enough for the Kidou to work. That sounds to be the most likely.

And, yes, I would actually be p*issed me off for once at Kubo if he did not use that reason for Ichigo losing his powers. If he lost it in vain, it's stupid and I'll punch a baby.

Ichigo's human, Aizen's powers are sealed away and is now at human level

they will fight their final battle... AS HUMANS!!!
