I know theres other main characters. Bleach has a ****ing massive cast. Some of them the story focus' more on however. Hitsugaya is one of those. I said he was A main character. Not THE main character. That would be the protagonist. Why are we even talking about this?
He was the one we followed in the SS arc in uncovering Aizens plot. Then he went to the human world and fought the Arrancars. Then he went to Fake Kararakaurarara town and fought the Espada. Now hes shown up to fight the Fullbringers. He's been prominent in every single arc of the story and gotten major fights in all of them. He's been consistently at the top of the polls for character popularity and has even gotten his own spin-off movie. He's a main character.
Ikkaku was in every place Hitsugaya was. He isn't really a main character now is he? 😮
You could argue that during the SS arc that he was a main character but not really. The audience needed to be presented with the mystery. None of the Nakama work in the context, so they needed to pick someone. Hitsugaya is friends with Hinamori, the one with the connection to Aizen, so he is the logical choice.
He did have more screen time than Ikkaku. But he is stronger and able to fight Espada at higher levels, so it makes sense.

Because he is a framing device for the audience to see what is going on behind the scenes. The story of that arc is Rescuing Rukia. Hitsugaya is the main character of the underlying story I guess but still not main character status.

Ikkaku actually serves as a source of humour at times. Renji, on the other hand has become useless, but was still a major character in the SS arc, and a fairly interesting one at that. Contrast them to Hitsugaya who has had weight in Bleach, but is still a very very boring character.
On the flip-side, he was a part of the lulziest scene ever in Bleach.

I can't remember any of Ikkaku's jokes. So they must not have been very good. And Renji is fairly bland actually. No where near as interesting as Byakuya. And I'm still not seeing how Hitsugaya played a main role in the plot aside from being the audiences perspective for some important parts. He has his beef with Aizen but he's not the only one.

Being a Worf does not mean one is a minor character. Look at Kakashi. Or even better, Sasuke.
As far as him having his own character? I disagree. But there isn't much one can do with Chad's character. But, since Aizen is gone, there isn't much to do with Hitsugaya's either.

I'm not seeing said weight. Sure, he was involved in the behind the scenes things I guess. But most of that consisted of suspecting Gin the whole time. He didn't affect the main plot at all and didn't really do much in the side plot either except confront Gin for like a second or two.
I disagree. Byakuya's character is much more subtle. Like watching Itachi. The two are quite akin to one another actually.
