Did Nel make any sense? She was a former Espada who lost her memory and power(Cool idea, I dig it). She then gains her power back(How?) and beats the shit out of #5. She then loses her power again(Again, how?) and #5 goes on about his buisness like nothing ever happened. And then she seems him die and she drops out of the manga.

No, Afro-Shinigami has a place. He's the guy in charge when Ichigo can't do shit. Rukia is no longer assigned to that "town".
So Afro-Guy has a legit place in the story that makes sense.
Nel does not. You can literally remove her and nothing changes about the story. She is filler.

1. Don is filler. But he also served to show us a bit more about spirit powers so he wasn't a complete waste. He's not as bad as Nel.
2. Kenpachi could have showed up at any point. That's just a forced plot point. Meaning...it's just filler. Forcing Kenpachi to show up late is just forcing the filler into the story.
3. Quincy are not authorized to kill hollow, remember? SS would still assign a shinigami to Karakura Town.

You know...that WOULD have been one of the best things in Bleach if Gin was waiting for just the right moment to pwn Aizen. Didn't Kubo know that that was the best possible way to wrap up his story? Man...if only. Then we could have skipped the entire Fullbring arc and Ichigo would not have had to waste his powers on a FGT.
^ It was his Bankai form. He should be able to maintain it for as long as he could maintain his Bankai before the Dangai training, which was a pretty long time.

Gin takes Hogyoku from Aizen and keeps it for himself. Ichigo turns up and uses FGT coz he likes posing and wants to show Gin that he isn't a pussy.
Gin survives, but gets sealed by Urahara's Kido. Ichigo loses his power like a pussy. Aizen then shows up, says 'Just as planned', reveals that the Hogyoku was still his servant, pwns Urahara, and then goes on to become the SK. awesome
