No. I want Chad and Booby Girl to at least be competent characters like they were in Soul Society. You know, the best arc Bleach has ever had in it's existence. After that, they pretty much all became peripheral. Orihime pretty much existed to get Ichigo to Hueco Mundo, where we spent far too long a time in. And Chad...well he just has the worst luck of any main character ever.

Also, Chad got one shot by a Captain who wasn't even trying and Orihime got son'd by some random dude we've never heard from again, i hardly call that being competent. Hell, Uryu is the only one with a good showing in that arc.

....No. In One Piece, if you become Nakama you WILL do something important and be fighting along side the protagonist. And in Naruto, even though Sakura suffers from being a girl and thus something Kishi has a hard time dealing with in general, both Sasuke and Kakashi are still massively more important than most of the other characters.
A Captain that would have shitstomped all of Ichigo's crew. And Orihime wasn't really beaten. Kenpachi just found her. And yeah, he had a good showing in that arc. His good showings ceased after he pwned an elite mook in the next arc though....

Rukia is a secondary character.
Her role in the series has gone from deuteragonist to damsel-in-distress to occasional motivational speaker. That's what she did in the last arc, give Ichigo a pep talk and think about how Ichigo has affected Soul Society.
