Unfortunately, recent genetic advances have opened the door to the homeobox, which is basically a set of tools that encode our DNA to produce specialized cells example, Arthropods Thorax, abdomen and head etc.
It was recently discovered that because all species on this planet derive from a LUCA- last universal common ancestor, we would obviously have the same homeotic genes encoding our body plans.
Now say we took the homeotic gene for a fly's compound eye and placed it into a mammal, lets say a mouse. The result would just be a normal mammalian eye. Now I'm not saying its impossible, there are complexities, alleles and mutations like how sickle cell anaemia is able to resist the malaria virus due to its crescent shaped haemoglobin.
A winged human being, although a decent idea when encoding the genes from a bird into a human, the human RNA and proteins would just code it back to a human arm, the wing would not form.
The only thing viable really, would be to wait for a mutation or trait favourable to our cultural lifestyle, extended canines, sharp teeth due to our increased carnivorous intake or the loss of our pinky toes.
But due to our existence being only a fraction of geological time, we will not be seeing these transitions in out lifetime.
What you would need is genetics from an external source.... since we are too interconnected on this planet, depending on whether or not you are a Copernican or a Goldilocks idealist.
Although the science pushes away from these ideas, I'll never let it smash my fantasies of having power, always wanted to be the villain. ๐
Glowing humans- A total possibility, much like melanin differences and even blue people.
Just small scale alleles.
