All Atlanteans, or Homo Mermani are blue. It is probably an evolutionary process that lets them blend in the sea better. An average Atlantean is modified to survive in deep pressures in under the sea, and therefore they are more durable then humans, and average Atlantean is able to press from three to six tons. Soldiers are probably between 6-10 tons in pressing strength. Atlanteans also have better eyesight then humans, and are able to see in murky depths of oceans like it would be daylight. They are not able to breath on land without the use of special pills that let them breath for five hours on land, or water masks.
Namor has lungs, but they contain special alveoli to enable him to breathe in water.

namor's true "mutancy" is very much up in the air, though he's widely considered to be the first known example of the "homo superior" race, even if he's homo saperanus superior... he's referred to, directly, as marvel's first mutant many times, and he's been affected by some weapon that targeted the x-gene. he's just so forgettable within the actual mutant world, and his mutation came from such an atypical source that was "pre-mutant" in origin...

he's not only a mutant.... he's a hybrid as well.... which, combined with his mutancy, make him quite unique
