in earth x, chapter zero, uatu is explaining the nature of the celestial seeds to x-51. according to uatu, the celestials were responsible for killing the dinosaurs and remolding humanity into their own image. in the human genetic sequence, they placed a "seed," which would eventually germinate through natural and unnatural evolution until the human race evolved into the next wave of celestials.
here he is discussing namor.
uatu: ["with namor, the sub-mariner, human mutation actually occurred through natural and environmental means. in this case...it was the result of cross-breeding between a human and another race which thrived below the waters...a race which descended from the sunken continent of atlantis."]
x-51: "atlantis?"
uatu: ["yes. the 'evil' committed by the celestials became the ancestry of one of the world's greatest heroes. a hero who might not have changed the tide of the war, had he not been born out of that earlier tragedy. namor and his allies saved millions, x-51."]
later, in that same issue, uatu explains the myriad ways through which the celestial seed began to germinate prematurely; explaining the nature of many heroes.
uatu: ["mankind was never meant to exist forever, x-51. the meek could never...how do you put it...inherit the earth. survival necessitates change. to high-school student peter parker, all it required was an irradiated spider to empower him. for reed richards and his crew, space-borne cosmic rays awakened the dormant gene. bruce banner, the inventor of the gamma bomb, became a victim of his own creation, only to receive more power than any man had ever dreamed of. matt murdock, blinded in an act of 'heroism,' found his remaining senses heightened beyond those of any man on earth. in each of these and many others, the seed planted by the celestials those many years before at last bore fruit."
uatu: ["this era saw the return of the sub-mariner, who had been wandering as a vagrant since the end of world war II. his return was not as an ally to humanity as he had fought before."
namor: "my home...destroyed. the surface-dwellers will face destruction. [in flashback]
x-51: "why are you showing me so much about namor? there are so many other heroes..."
uatu: ["he is the pendulum that swings between the polarities of deviant and eternal, x-51. he was the first born directly of the seed. his is the second face of man."]
uatu spoke in dialogue boxes, hence the brackets. anyway, i found what uatu said to be most interesting.
