Simple, Ann. Just don't come here anymore, like me. Yeah I miss it, but it's just a message board 😬

Hahahahaha ~the wisdom of a 13 year old me~

Thank you Clovie. This made me laugh.

I have litereally ONE person from here IRL. Talked with some on phone.. have some on friends list on fb..

BUT I think forums lke this are easier to find answers... I mean on fb everything is happening too fast and you can't really get back to something. here, you know there was s a thread about something, which was started by this or that person in this or that year, and you can easily find it. It's fun.

after years of resisting it, i finally got a facebook. its handy, but its definitely not the same as message boards. most of the people you add on facebook are people you already know or just met in person. even if you just met this person, you already know a great deal about him/her just by scrolling through his/her timeline. facebook is immediate and it’s a filter for familiar people.

i like the initial animosity of message boards. you don’t know whose on the other end, and i think it’s an amazing way to meet people you might not otherwise find yourself naturally associating with in your day to day lives. there is so much noise and social barriers when it comes to meeting new people in face-to-face interactions. on a message board, its simple. you say what you want and how you feel. you literally don’t have to censor yourself. on facebook, you are being watched… by your mother, other family members, professional colleagues, your employer… noise.

message boards force you to take your time to get to know someone. there’s always that fear of that unknown person, who they really are, which makes us more cautious of who we let in our circle. if you like that person enough and feel comfortable with them, you invite them onto your facebook. hell, you might arrange for a physical introduction. some people fly half way across the country and even oceans to meet a friend they never had the pleasure of seeing in person. and that’s beautiful. that’s not immediate. that’s layers and layers of groundwork. even if you haven’t met that person yet, you’re spending time actively exchanging messages with someone, which is more than what we do with our hundrends of facebook friends.

anyone whose been on KMC long enough knows that these “meaningless” conversations can be more than just fun banter with a complete stranger. sometimes they are, but the ones who are still here... there's a reason they are still here.

so yeah...

Excellent piece. 👆

I'm still here because there are enough of my friends here to entertain me. For me, this is all about occupying my bored bored mind.

that was meant to be "anonymity" instead of "animosity." ermm
