why are americans whinging about petrol prices to much

true.........I did vote for Bush.

I assure you, it had nothing to do with the cost of gasoline. It was merely a preventative measure to ensure John Kerry would not be in the white house. Atleast Bush flat out tells you his thoughts and ideas about different subjects........most of which I don't agree with but atleast I know where he stands. This is in direct opposition to Kerry's no-stance on anything policy where he hoped the American public would vote him into office without knowing where he stands on any issues. I am a registered Democrat, by the way. Sometimes it's choosing the lesser of two evils.

Gas is about $2.56 here, but I know in Washington D.C., they are moving to Natural gas...They use it now in their buses...Hope it catches on....It's cleaner.

American's "complain" about gas prices because this war was supposed to make those prices go down...instead they have done nothing but go up.

And of course America gets better prices on gas than other, smaller countries. America has more people with personal automobiles than any other country in the world and I'm pretty sure the average American's commute to work is significantly larger than many of those smaller countries.

They buy in a larger quantity and for doing so they get a better price.

you forget that we also produce a lot of oil ourselves so we do not have to buy it all from other countries......

really? I thought the war (that has been over for a long time now) was supposed to dethrone Saddam Hussein as he has been known to use devastating weapons in the past against both his own people and neighboring countries and intelligence reported that he had gained evern more powerful weapons. I thought we still had troops in Iraq to help maintain law and order as Iraq's government is not yet stable enough to do so itself.

Thanks for educating me.

People always say to me "You're 19 and you don't own a car? Wow."

I can get ANYWHERE I want or need to on public transport for a couple of pounds.

It's much much better, and no traffic.

Problem is that America is a nation of spoiled whinners. All we do is complain, complain and more complain. We are used to living a convienient (sp?) lifestyle of fast food, traveling with our SUV's, and shopping till we drop. When is time to tighten our belts and watch our wallets we begin to moan and whine about things.

I grow more sick and tired of TV news reporters interviewing some wahoo in some local gas station complaining about the high gas prices. Take the friggin bus if you don't want to pay so much. I personally depend on gas to get to work and if I have to pay another buck for gas....I pay it! What other choice I have? Whine like a little *beep*? Hell no, I have to balance my budget and cut back on some things I really don't need (like extra DVD's or a fancy meal in a restaurant) Some Americans don't know how to balance their friggin economy. That is why Credit cards companies continue to report more bankrupcies every year. People just don't know how to balance their financial books.

True its a dollar a liter here Canadian while its only 81 cents a liter in the US. However unlike the US SUV sales have gone almost to nothing here. More people are going to Japanese cars.

I think the assumption is most Americans complain about paying high prices for gas and the truth is, most hard working Americans have to pay whatever price the gas is to get back and forth to work.

If people want to drive SUV's, Cadillac's or whatever, then the person has to pay the price.

Yes, there are alternatives to driving, including carpooling, park and ride, subway systems, and city trains. It isn't a dead end so people do have plenty of options regardless.

The price in NY has hit 3.00 but doesn't include the Indian reservations, where gas is about 2.35 per gallon.

Will people give up traveling, vacations and social driving because of high prices? No way, and that's the truth.

Would people quit smoking when the packs hit $5.00? They sure didn't.

People will pay for what they want. The teens will still cruise in their cars and the hot rodders will still attend their cruise nights...Not much will change.

the public transport argument is a good one, but in my case, not much of an option. i live out of town, the buses dont run anywhere near where i live.
and if out reptilian little scum bag prime minister dropped the second tax (GST of an EXTRA 10%!) off the petrol (which might i add is already taxed before the GST is added on) the prices of petrol would drop substancially. but not while he's busy trying to impress Bush.

siphon first, ask questions last. 🙄

I really think thats pretty arogant thinking to assume no other country in the world has SUV's, fast food stores, and shopping malls. As if no other country could ever dream to afford such luxuries things like DVD's! No other country in the world has people rich enough to buy those only we do!

So youre saying if someone doesnt like the way the government is they should just shut up and live with it? I'm sorry I cant agree, if the gas prices are high you should complain about it, you should voice your concerns and try to get your government to try to do something about it.

It's about $3.75 USD per gallon in NZ...

Which is why I hardly use my car these days.

I'm American, I don't complain about gas prices, I did not vote for Bush, I voted against him. Unlike everyone else in this country I do my part to cut down on gas prices, I do not own a car, I use public transportation. If everyone used public transports or carpooled gas prices would plummet.

Not everyone can, though. I have to drive to school everyday, a half hour drive. I can't take public transportation because no train or bus goes even remotely near my school. I can't carpool because none of my friends go to my school. I have no choice but to drive; same with many people.

I'm going to have to side with Homer Simpsons on this subject, public transportation blows.

True, Who honestly wants to take a bus to work?

In Iraq gas is 5 cents a gallon

Sweet, I should go live in Iraq. Oh, wait... 😐

Complaining is a waste of time, but it sucks to have to just grin and bare it.

I ride my bike when I can, but my job often requires me to drive, and also to drive long distances or where 4x4 is required. So I have to buy gas. However, I buy gas from the little mom&pop gas stations in my area.

They often have the cheapest prices (and though I know my money ultimately goes to big corporations) and I'd rather give them my money than the big compnaies, at least directly.

complaints bring about change.
grinning and bearing it assures that things will not change 😬
