Obi-wan vs Qui-gon

(i searched, and from what i saw this wasn't used, surprisingly. if it was though, and i missed it, just please tell me.)

so...Obi-wan at his peak, vs Qui-gon at his.

Master vs Apprentice...and for the sake of keeping it to their fighting styles, let's not say "well obi wouldn't want to kill his master" or vice versa. both here are willing to defeat and kill the other.

what do you guys think?

Obi-wan in ROTS would soundly defeat Qui-gon. He was at this point the third strongest in the order, behind Yoda and Mace. Qui-gon was probably barely in the top six.

that's what i was thinking. anyone know what form qui-gon used?

Ataru, form 4

really? isn't that what Yoda uses? maybe i'm confused here.

It's the same one.

Yoda taps way more into the force though

In his day, probably about 10 years before TPM wasn't Qui-Gon said to be really good, like, probably better than Maul? Anyway, even if the strongest Obi-Wan ever is is in episode 3 I'd say he definately could defeat Qui-Gon in his peak. I mean, he beat Vader for crying out loud.

Qui-gon was good. I have heard that Plo Koon thought Qui-gon was better than him.

But is Plo Koon good? I heard he's a pretty good pilot, but a duelist? Qui-Gon was supposedly one of the better swordsman, but I think Obi in his prime would take Qui-Gon.

Plo would be in the top ten of his time.

well Qui-gon apparently was a Jedi Master, and would've been on the Council if he wasn't such a maverick. i never knew about the Master thing until recently..but apparently he had some skill to back this up.

and odd..because i never really saw qui-gon use form iv in the movies. i've actually studied these forms, and from what i know, form iv includes jumping quite a bit, using your terrain, etc...things like that. i don't remember qui-gon doing more than using various swings on maul. perhaps i need to watch TPM more closely.

I have seen things saying he uses form four everywhere. http://swg.stratics.com/content/gameplay/professions/jedi/lightsaber_combat.php

Form IV basically includes acrobatics, such as jumps and spins. This form can help to those who are physically unable to fight, because the physical movement of this form is greatly assisted by the Force, which is why Yoda can do so much with it. Yoda also uses such great mobility to make up for his size. If you watch, Qui-Gon often would twirl his saber around his wrist to create momentum in his swings, duck, jump, and spin a lot when fighting Maul. In fact, Qui-Gon only started to lose when he was starting to go on the defensive. That is Ataru's weakness, it mainly relies on offense, leaving opportunistic or patient opponents an advantage. Sokan, which is a minor form, is more about using your terrain, it involves lots of footwork and constant movment to corner or disable your opponent.

ah, thank you se7in. yes, i recently watched TPM again because i was bored and haven't seen it in a while. and i did notice the spinning and such.

hey, where is my thankyou, lol

oh sorry. hehe. i didn't check your link cause i thought it was just showing that Qui-gon used form iv. yes, thanks. 🙂 that's helpful. but actually, i already know every form, and have used them. (jedi academy anyone?)

btw, welcome to the group, Black Bortex.

How did you use all the forms in Jedi Academy? I only thought they had blue, yellow, and red (respectively Soresu, Shii-Cho, and Shien).

There are actually 5 saber styles (2 of them accessible only by cheats).

There's a second blue, which I can only assume to resemble Ataru, and a second Red, which seems to be a kind of Juyo.
