Grim you need to keep in mind that Ultimate Wolverine is stronger then his 616 counter part. He was once crushed under an SUV and he effortlessly pushed it off him with one arm. And he wouldn't need superhuman strength to that degree if Ben was off balance at the time of the attack... which he was.

technically.. thing went after wolverine.. wolverine used his WAYYYY superior speed to sidestep things attack and then wolvie gave him the boot before his balance could recover..

So Thing kinda off-balanced himself.
