Chief Justice William Rehnquist dies at 80
Ailing justice served on Supreme Court for 33 years

WASHINGTON - Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist died Saturday evening of cancer, ending a 33-year Supreme Court career during which he oversaw the court’s conservative shift, presided over an impeachment trial and helped decide a presidential election. His death creates a rare second vacancy on the nation’s highest court.

Rehnquist, 80, was surrounded by his three children when he died at his home in suburban Arlington. His wife died in 1991.

right or left. surely you must understand this. its the system our country
was founded on. they dont have a RIGHT to fill every seat with a rightwinger who matches their exact ideals, never was a right. they will exploit a technicallity, brought up by one judge resigning and the other dying.

indeed.. were they to actually follow the spirit of the framers of this country (as they CLAIM to do) they would choose the most objective person who can interpret the law to the best of one's ability and NOT the one who can promote their own agenda.. dont get me wrong a democrat would do the same .. but that doesnt make it right either

Hey, Bush can get R dun, ever sense he's been around the country has been improving. Albet we've had more natural backlashes. But nature has nothing to do with presidency. So whatever descision the guy makes will most likely be a good one..

The old one was okay until he voted for Bush to be President. then i knew he sold himself.
