But that 20 years of exile for Ben doesn't help his chances where ROTS Obi-Wan has done nothing but train and fight.
Not necesarily..
Its obvious that Obi Wan knows the Sand People in ANH, and has fought them. He also found out a way to scare them. Meaning either that he just didn't want to fight or could not win from them. Judging ANH Obi we can clearly say that he did not want to fight at all unless necessary. The less he fought the better. But he still would have trained maybe not in a real war but he still would have trained. He would have become more powerful with the force more atuned. Dooku is also old but he still kicks ass, and Dooku hasn't really had any battles before AOTC either. Still he kicks ass. Obi Wan would have probably perfectd his style by ANH even without the fighting.
And yeah Rots OBi is more fit, but he wouldn't stand against the force powers and the superior lightsaber skills of ANH Obi.

Oh no, he mastered it. It's in every official source on him, and on the style of Soresu. Off the top of my head, there's the Episode III Guide.

He mastered it? Odd.. LOE said that he had become good at it but that he wasn't great yet. Or something like that, of course that could just be a translation error.
I believe it is. . . Trust me, I nearly memorized the combat-centric lines and sequences of that book; his Soresu abilities are never once argued against. Damn, double deja vu. . .
In fact, the book greatly compliments his skills in Soresu by having him destroy fifty super battle droids, single-handedly, while under. . . the influence. *gasps*
Yeah I know, the book also says that he was lucky... And I know he was good but well I remember it saying something about his skill somewhere but then saying it wasn't good enough yet. However that could have been taking a bit out of context or a translation error, has been some time since I read the book and I trust you on this. So okay he probably did master it.
