Street Tourney: General Discussion Thread

Started by DigiMark00753 pages

With amalgams, having too many on a team meant way too many powers, but with team-based it's easier to form a larger "team" without becoming excessively powerful. 2-on-2 would be fine...but as ScarletSpider's old tourney showed us, with teams it's possible to have more (not that it was a perfectly balanced tourney, but I believe the number was 7). I'd say 7 is way too many, but certainly anywhere from 2 to, say, 5 would be do-able.

I'd vote toward the lower end of that (2 or 3 (4 max)...any more would be a drafting nightmare) but it's certainly possible.

Also, we'd need to start thinking about rough "limits" (like our "Powerful Street" that we invented for this current tourney).

Ha! If it were to come up, I'd probably pair Cloak with someone with a more varied portfolio. C & D both attack the soul, thus couldn't hurt the robots. Now, Cloak + Pulsar, that'd be something.

Don't underestimate Cloak!

Hey Digi, why not join the next tournament. It'll be fun to beat a moderator. 🙂

Starting the trash talk early.

(Hides identity in fear of Mod backlash)

man

Hi, I'm Clark Kent... And you are?

C & D should never ever ever ever ever be allowed in a friggin streetlevel team tourney.
Those two can give people like Strange & near herald levels a good go when together and on top of their game.

Trash talk all you want...Temporary week-long bans for whoever I'm facing and I'll waltz through the tournament, and probably with crappy picks to spite you even more. 😛

No, I need a break from being so involved...after this I'll be modding and little else for a while.

Eh, it won't be the same without ya around as much.
🙂

Part of what I like about them is that they're not all that powerful in any absolute sense, yet they're extremely effective due to attacking from such unusual vectors. Dagger would have actually been legal by the current tourney rules. Mmm, armor ignoring stun attack. Wish I'd thought of that.

I like this Team Tourney , has a nice ring to it . It could go very well (Plus it may be the first one which I'm actually a participant and not a spectator)

Yeah, I really liked the last team tournament. the teams were a bit too big, though. I like 2-2 or maybe 3-3. Maybe have one Herald level (SS and Superman) and one to two mid tier peole. I dunno Either way, I am definitely up for another team tourney.

2 on 2 actually sounds good.

a few more would be good... four or five

nah... that way it just becomes a fight between the most powerful member of each team... whichever one wins that wins the match... making the rest of the team practically pointless

eh 5 on 5, where the winner is really decided by who has the most powerful herald level?

5 on 5 where every pick is limited to the same "below Iron Man" level

I'm thinking larger than 3 on 3 will become quite unwieldy. These debates are tough to follow with just two combattants. I think "Iron-Man Level" is a pretty good metric. Powerful, but not demi-gods.

It might help if we had a bit more structure to the debating process. Something like 2 days of comparing/arguing powers and feats, perhaps ending with a mini-vote/ruling to settle any contested claims. Three days of trading blow by blow posts. Two days where voters could ask questions and cast votes.

Anything to get away from rambling "Uh-uh!" "Yuh-Huh!" type "debates."

Yeah, so um...not sure what I'm supposed to do here...

Apparently we might need to consider a new method of voting for the next tourney, or someone will start opening "Vote for Me" threads in the OTF with links to their battle. I'm sure Jin didn't mean to be malicious about it or anything, but the posse from other forums that just showed up en masse to vote for him seems like an abuse of the tourney's unwritten etiquette. It was a good, close match and he might have won anyway, but putting it over the top like that leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

{Edit} I also don't want to accuse him of anything without first knowing everything...he's got a huge following and it's possible a bunch just showed up to vote for him. Or (gasp) maybe they read the battle and he really won by that much. Either way, it wasn't technially against the rules if he did any campaigning, just a possible breach of etiquette.

Can the asthmatic General Grievous survive a tendril choke?

Can adamantium cut through Kull’s armor? (Enough blasts from a zat gun certainly does).

you haven't been reading the thread, have you? if you had you'd know that CW Grievous is in perfect health

Zat guns have never been anything but useless against Kull armour

Hellfire is a different kind of weapon than regular fire or heat based weapons
