How was the working class in the pre-Thatcher years striving for personal economic prosperity?! It was a welfare state- people were leeching off the government- it was oversized and sucking people's drive by means of taxes. Thatcher created this drive.'Chav' culture is due to lack if decent discipline in schools and at home.
The Chav culture also refers to how the working class aspired to be middle class. The social divide was made even more clear in the Thatcher regime. Therefore more poeple wanted out of the working class, as though it was bad, and started this keeping up with Jones' splashing out on designer gear, wannabe celeb thing they still have going even today. Instead of being a community helping and supporting each other, the "f*ck you" culture took over, and the capitalist ideal became the emphasis.
Instead of helping each other onto their shoulders, the communal feeling that was rife during the war and afterwards, dissapearred, with people trying to screw each other to get higher in the food chain.
Thatchers fault. F*ck her.
