is it right to force religion on a child?

Is it right or not?

I personally think it is wrong and selfish for a parent to force religion on a child or children. A child should be allowed to make their own choice wether or not they want to be a god fearing christian or an atheist or whatever. Tell me what you think of all this.

Well in general parents try to do with what is right for their children, even if it comes from ignorance...I feel that a parent should educate them self on the subject and let the child make his/her own choices, though if a parent is concerned about the hell thing, then of course they would try to sway the child into believing what would save them from that eternity, even though it is false...

You mean even though it might be false..

And in some ways, it is wrong, but as stated, the parents are just trying to do the best they can.. Besides, it's only natural that whatever you believe is going to be implemented into your teachings, when they get older they'll have the brain to seekout thier own philosophy, which may be what the parents raised them as, which may not be.. I'd rather know someone is teaching children about neo-Christianity then no religous virtues at all..

^ Eternity in Hell is false from all the research I've done....Well, that's my opinion..

I think personally the only fair way is to teach a child your beleifs and let them decide what they want to believe.

I think parents should expose their children to their beliefs in an intelligent and nurturing fashion, and most likely the kids will follow their faith because they have been well taught and molded. My parents did exactly the opposite. And thats's why I'm not a christian.

no cause the child must when they come of age deceide themselves whatever they wanna believe

Should parents expose their children to their religion? I don't see anything wrong with that as long as it's done in a manner that doesn't preclude the child choosing not to follow the religion and/or choosing to follow a different one or none. However parents should not impose their religions on children.

Some parents truly brainwash their kids....OH man...what I've seen....I mean some won't even watch National Geographic, cause the tribes men weren't dressed quite up to standard... 😑 They ban TV and can only read non fictional books....Heaven forbid you read anything about fantasy....Using the scripture "Vain Imaginations"...using ones imagination is not of god in their eyes....OH, and the "Lord of the Rings"...that's a NO NO NO (evil) series.........Takes some kids yearssssss to recover....truly sad....Because everythings so worldly and evil....and must be separate.

you make a really good point debbiejo. My god it almost sounds just the way I was raised. Really sad I know.

I believe that parents should strive to teach about as many religions as possible rather than stick just to the dominant religion in their culture. All of these beliefs should be explained side-by-side. As long as you as a parent don't privilege any religion over another, then your children shouldn' t either. As adults, they will choose their own religious identity and path.

i personally think religion is wrong. too many arguments over religion have led to war. get rid of all of it.

I'm just going to nod and agree with Debbiejo. Well, because she basically said what I was thinking.

hmm strange thing two have voted yes but I dont see any post where they say why they choose so

Well, I voted no...though I feel that they should know something about different faiths..

they should learn about all religions there are, not only one.
And most importantly:
freedom of religion (which they should get) also includes freedom from religion

But it won't happen, cause parents usually have very strong convictions for their children's eternal destiny......They want to be together forever...However, when they get older, many will search things out themselves....It's just human curiosity...Some are too scared to though...And lots of pressure not to.

the child is the parents responsibility until they become of age , if a parent attends church then yes the child should attend also, and i dont believe that someone who is truly seeking the best for their child is going to try to brainwash, the child has a brain after all and can make their own decisions, hopefull good communication will be between the parents and children and they will be able to discuss these things as they have questions , and thats the basis for a good family relationship. communication. you wouldnt let your children stick their hand in a pit of snakes when you knew they could get hurt would ya ? even though the child might want to play with the pretty wriggling snakies .

forcing religion is wrong. I dont believe anyone should follow a religion. Follow after Christ Jesus not after some religion. Jesus isnt a religion. He is Lord.
