ook first of, the crime in trinidad, like many other countries has socio-economic roots. A good percentage of the murders here are a result of gang and drug activities.
The kidnapping situation has racial and political ties. Because mostly persons of "indian, syrian" races are being kidnapped and very ver very few people of african decent get kidnapped. For a long time I did not want to acknowledge ties into the spate of kidnappings here, but its SSSOOOOO very obvious now. And it started just before the last general elections. Here the votes go along a racial divide, so the theory of forcing "Wealthy Indian voters out of the country" quickly surfaced and Makes sence.
No other country in this world is gonna help us with our crime problem. There is a crime stopping initive going around, where the logo is " Fix ME first"
Trinidad needs to revamp its society from the ground up, this increased police patrol thing aint gonna cut it, Throwing money at the problem will help, but we have to throw it in thwe right place.
If you have to stop a spreading fire, U spray or douce the roots of the flame, to kill it, U dont spray the 100 ft flames. And thats what they are doing here, they trying to fix the problem from the WRONG direction.
LOL the government here is messed up.
We have the money, We have oil and some really big gas reserves, that we are selling DIRT cheap to the USA.
We dont need outside help, well moneywise. We can use some good advise and some people to slap sence into our politicians.
talking bout the murder rate here is nothing compared to the AIDS epedemic, thousands every year get infected. We have a serious brain drain problem here. Nepotism can be found everywhere, so highly qualified people are leaving the country.
So how are people to get jobs when corruption bottolenecks the workplaces here?
Oooooooooooooooooo the problems here have been many many years in the making
sooooooo you see, you can go crying about a problem, but u need to know the causes of each problem, before you fix them
we know the problems, but just that no one wants to fork out the money to fix them.
SIGH!!!!!!!!!!
no matter what though, I love trinidad, and cant see me leaving ( well permanently )
Hey AS A trinidadian, couldn't quite care less if the US gave us money to help deal with our crime. In fact the governments here were virtually allowing the country to be freely accessesuble to the states some years ago. When they were considering to let American Citizens enter the coubtry without a passport. THAT was absolute BS, especially why we , normal trinidadian citizens would have to spend days standing in the hot sun and over $1000 to get a visa to enter the states( yeah, the US embassy makes people wait outside in the sun while applying for a visa.)
HEyyyyyyyyyyyy and we little tiny Trinidad sent money ( several million) to help with the Katrina relief.
And Trinidad acts as the Caribbean's "god-parent" anytime there is a disaster in the region. WE make a special allocation of money every year in the national budget ( which is about US$3 billion , the national budget that is)for a regional disaster fund. It was our money that helped lay the infrastructure in many smaller islands. It was our relief teams that were in Grenada First after Ivan hit. It was our country that sent billions to help out Guyana in their years of need.
SOOO we know what it is like to be constantly giving money, and NOT get much in return
And this could be a chance for Trinidad to get something in return for all it does for the other islans in the Caribbean. They could get the help that they asked for, at least making a start in helping its people.
Trinidad shouldn't let US people in without a passport if Trinidadians have to get a visa to stay in the US.
well we have been trying, but its best we write of these depts. It is mean to demand money you 'gave' to help when a country is in need. And besides talking about debt only weakens the bonds between our small nations.
hey in emergencies one should never think " Oh when will I get back this money??" Never ever do that, then your help is not coming from the heart.
AS for the VISA/ passport thing, that is in the past, they need passports to come here now
