But the murder took someone's life so what about him?

if you take his life doesn't that make you as bad as he is?

It is an eye for an eye!

so, you agree that it does lower you to their level then?

I have mixed feelings about the death penalty. I believe that whatever your crime is, that or something worse should be done to you. Allowing them to slip of to sleep with a painless injection just doesn't seem fair to the vicitim and their family

It does make you look bad but if the murder was planned then I think that person deserves it.It is God who makes the final judgement on where he or she will go!

lol, wut?

really?

"hey, rapist, what you did was bad, therefore, because we are the good guys, we are going to do so much worse to you, you know, because we are the good guys who act worse than criminals"

but if we are just as bad as murderers, how are we justified in telling them they are wrong or imprisoning them?

The difference is we aren't doing it to innocent people.

so if I went out and murdered someone who killed my sister, I shouldn't be prosecuted?

Citizens aren't allowed to take the law into their own hands. So you'd still be doing something illegal.

"its ok when the government does it?"

not a moral axiom I'm going to give into any time soon

It's a grey area. In all honesty I think that's fair. Which is why I'll never be president 😬

But seriously, crime WOULD go down if the criminal had to experience what his victim did.

no it wouldn't...

crime rates are almost always higher in places with extreme sentences...

Proof? Because most criminals commit crimes because they think they won't get caught. That or it's impulsive.

Someone made a good point about killing in self defense not being murder. I would think that killing to defend others is not murder either. Executing a person that is a danger to others is a form of permanent defense against any future threats that the individual may pose. Execution is a drastic measure that is definitely unsavory, but the people that bring it upon themselves have only themselves to blame. Obviously death penalties have been abused in the past as have all penalties. I don't think anyone would suggest removing all penalties. As long as it is not abused the death penalty guarantees that a dangerous individual will never endanger anyone again.

Give me two years of every crime that is committed something is done to the criminal besides them sitting in prison of getting killed.

A man rapes/molests someone= Castration.

Theft of X amount = You loose an appendage.

People would think about it. And if it doesn't work. Then we will go back to the other way.

Problem is we are to soft on our criminals.

The death of an inmate should not be gentle. That is a luxury that should be saved for those who abide by the laws.

Public Hangings, Electric Chairs, etc. We stopped this because it was cruel and unusual. Bullshit. There are criminals out there that deserve that or worse.

we stopped them, and crime rates are lower than ever...

strange, when a state breeds violence...

That would do little to curb crime. As I said, most criminals commit crimes thinking they won't get caught, so the punishment is mostly irrelevant.

You might (and I stress might) discourage repeat offenders with those barbaric practices.

During their rule, the Taliban would boil the families of those who dealt marijuana.

This did not end marijuana use in Afghanistan (though, to be fair, it did cut it back substantially)

you can't violence people into compliance...

lol, I'm just glad the stats aren't on violence's side...

torture, etc, would seem a little more acceptable if it actually produced results.
