superman is my fav superhero. i don't have a scanner or cool pics to post, so i'll just talk about him, if thats ok. superman is by far the greatest superhero. i don't mean he's the strongest character, but that he HAS the strongest character. he's that unfaltering moral pillar. he does the right thing because its the right thing, no other reason than that. he didn't need to have his uncle or his parents or anyone killed to do what he does (spidey and bats are still very cool), he does it simply because its right.
superman never lordes his power over anyone. he's humble and kind. his moral character is something to look up to. hes not a dark anti-hero, he's a HERO. he's the big blue boyscout, he does it all, from saving the world to saving a cat in a tree. its comforting knowing that someone so powerful is so good. also, he's a symbol of hope. he's the worlds greatest hero and they know it. they know that if superman is there, somehow everything will be ok.
superman leads through example. he brings out the best in people. superman has always been about the hope that we can make the world a better place. we can make things better, we can make a difference. this is how superman leads with his example. he inspires the rest of the world to do what it can. maybe we can't do what superman can do, but we can do something, and if we all do what we can, we can change the world. as the superman movies said, "they can be a great people kal-el, they only lack the light to show the way". superman is that light, he inspires the rest of us with his example.
supermans influence is felt even in the real world. that is the sign of how great a character he is. he's become more than a character, he's become a symbol of hope in the comic world, AND the real one. someone on these boards said that superman has a plaque in the UN and that poor children in other parts of the world identify him as a symbol of hope in their lives. when a character brings hope to children in real life, he becomes more than just a character, he becomes real. the hope they feel because of him is very real, and then so his he to those children. superman has transcended comics to the point of making a difference to people and inspiring them in real life as well.
in closing, i believe that there can be no better role model for children, and no greater comic hero than superman. to many people across the world, he represents the best in humanity, and represents the hope that we can make the world a better place.
